Windows 8 Developer Preview: Samsung 700T Photo Gallery

Microsoft this week provided reviewers with a very temporary loan of a specially made slate PC running the Windows 8 technical preview. And when I say temporary, I mean temporary: We have to give this machine back on Thursday evening before we leave BUILD.

If you're curious, the PC is a Samsung 700T, a modified version of the Windows 7 slate Samsung will be selling publicly soon. It features a second generation Intel Core i5 processor, an 11.6 inch screen at 1366 x 768, a UEFI BIOS, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB SSD, sensors, USB, micro SD, HDMI, pen, and a dock with USB, HDMI, and Ethernet.

In use, it's been fairly buggy, though I'd imagine that's a software issue, not a hardware issue. Microsoft asked us not to rate the battery life (bad) or compare it to any iPad. Yet.

The Slab computer also has air vents and internal fans running, (hence the poor battery life). 4 GB RAM? - Wow that's twice as much as an iPod Shuffle. Why no ARM version yet? That keyboard looks an awful lot like an Apple keyboard. - Funny that. If this is as far as Microsoft have got, they ought to be very worried. How far ahead do they think iOS and Android will be before this Turkey is hatched?
