'Been checking Technet for two or three days now since the "Public release of Windows 7 Release Candidate set for May 5" on April 18.
:o)
'Guess after a teaser post like this I will be a-checking every half hour.
waethorn: "Haven't they historically released stuff on Tuesdays?"
I don't think so. If I remember correctly, the Win7 Beta was released on a Friday or Saturday.
Nice tease Paul.. I was at least hoping for a date, or that it's leaked on torrentz or something :P
I just finished installing my two new hard drives and graphics card, and have shifted all the data to new drives, and made all the preparations for a new OS install.. Like others - I'm really hoping for RC _really_soon_ .. my initial hopes were that this weekend I'd be able to install it and transfer all the data and setup stuff and so on.. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and.. yeah.. checking MSDN/Technet every now and than :)
Well, that's one way to tease us! Can't wait for the RC to come public, really looking to convert my main laptop to 7 finally, the only thing stopping me my laziness of not wanting to copy my iTunes library and everything else.
RC had leaked! Both x86 and x64 versions available, and people claim it's the real thing! Posted around the web just few hours ago..
I'm refreshing MSDN/TechNet like crazy but still nothing.. so while I wait for official download to appear, torrent it is :) Just in case that MS decides to post it on monday and not during weekend :P
Readme with the 64bit iso file says:
"This is an untouched copy of the final Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RC build.
Your beta key should work fine with it."
And a file name is:
7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GRC1CULXFRER_EN_DVD.iso
But I'm still hoping for an official release today.. Official is official :)
DR WAM - since Win7 is less demanding than Vista, I see no reason for waiting. But a lot of people that have upgraded their computers, are waiting for Win7 to get a nice new OS to go with their "nice new" hardware..
I may have stumbled upon a video of the new Windows 7 UI that's been rumored on Microsoft France, apparently the RC Build is going to include this new UI.
Check out my blog for some screens and a link to the video http://blogofcookie.com/
FYI, I downloaded the leaked 7100 build and installed it into a virtual machine. I am hard-pressed to find any significant difference between it and builds 7077, 7057 or even 7048. No new UI, no new anything really other than the build number.
That said, I'm not entirely convinced that this leaked build is the same as what will be given out officially. It could very well be legitimate but something about it feels a little off right now.
anthony cook: "I may have stumbled upon a video of the new Windows 7 UI that's been rumored on Microsoft France"
Uh, no. For the 20 seconds of that video that you actually see Windows 7, it's pretty obviously the same UI that has appeared in every build since the Beta. And the date the video is posted was 2 months ago.
"people claim it's the real thing!"
People can CLAIM anything they want. It doesn't necessarily make it so.
The only way to be sure is to compare it to the official release, and at that time, why would it make sense to get it from an untrusted Bittorrent site?
I'm waiting for the official launch. I know too many people that get bit by illegal download sites (and I charge them for fixing their computer afterwards).
Yea Ken is right, there is not much in UI differences and there wont be from here on out. The main thing MS is focusing on now is under the hood issues and tweaks, like in 77 WinDVD doesn't work a well as several other apps, but they are fixed in the 87 build which has been rebranded to 7100 RC release.
Every so often, I publish an updated version of my “What I Use” document, which details the technology products and services I actually use day-to-day. Since I’m currently on my third business trip in five weeks, this is perhaps an ideal time to discuss the technology products I rely on when I travel and a few related points....More
Lots of changes since November, including a new PC-based home server running Windows 8, several new smart phones, new PCs and tablets, new cloud backup, Office 365 Home Premium and a nice doubling of my Internet speeds courtesy of Verizon FIOS....More
