Get your live.com email address now

I saw in the announcement that live.com email addresses are finally available, but couldn't figure out where you'd go to get one. Fortunately, LiveSide has the scoop:

Microsoft just enabled the @live.xx signup! Go grab yours now! http://get.live.com/getlive/overview for the local domains (eg @live.co.uk) or use the following link for @live.com - @live.com signup.

Regarding the transition from @hotmail.com to @live.com, a pretty straightforward process is given on the new Windows Live site at http://www.windowslive.com/freshstart.

Thanks Troy!

Thanks for the tip! Tried getting my address, but I keep getting: We are working to fix a temporary problem with our sign-up service. Please try again. Error code: 32 The freshstart link appears to be dead, too...

The link for the transition might actually be http://www.windowslive.com/freshstart.html, which works vs. the one above which doesn't.

Grrgh! I missed out on getting michael@live.com.au! I'm really angry!

Thanks for the tip! I'm happy to get the address I was hoping for. I logged in and it's a great interface! I had no trouble importing my contacts, but was dismayed to send my test message to see the Hotmail ad attached at the bottom. I realize you can't look a gift horse in the mouth, but when you see the exciting things that Gmail is doing with IMAP and the fact they've never taglined the bottom of messages, I'm not sure if it's convincing people to switch. Granted free Yahoo taglines their messages, but only to advertise their mail service. The test email I sent from Live had a CafeMessanger ad in it.

re: romeyinfc Hotmail has never tagged messages I send when I use the Outlook Connector. I think it's the same when you use Windows Live Mail too. I think they only tag messages if you a) use the website instead of a program, and b) have a free account instead of Hotmail Plus.

btw: the quick link for US-English signup is this: https://signup.live.com/newuser.aspx?mkt=en-us Make sure you LOG OUT of a currently signed-in WL ID, otherwise you'll see a "Get Windows Live" download page for the software. I just tried this link now and it doesn't seem to give me the live.com domain option, but it worked a few hours ago. It might be that the live.com domain is just getting a massive influx of new subscribers right now. Generally speaking, you can replace the "en-us" in the link with several different localization codes. They have most official languages for different countries, and that link is much shorter than the full one. Each of the supported countries and languages will give you the respective domain and signup page. Examples of which are: en-us = live.com English-US es-us = live.com Spanish-US en-ca = live.ca English-Canada fr-ca = live.ca French-Canada fr-fr = live.fr French-France de-de = live.de German-Germany etc.... If you know your standard language and country code, try it. You'll know if it doesn't work because it won't have a signup page and will kick you back to the navy-blue Windows Live home page at get.live.com. There are just too many language options for me to mention here.

I was able to get live.co.uk addresses for my wife and I but have been getting the 32 error for live.com

@Waethorn - Thanks for the tip. I tried from the Live Mail desktop application and it sent the message without the tagline ad. However, I still don't understand why they can't just remove it from the browser client. With Hotmail Plus - where can someone get it? I looked all over their site and the closest thing I could find that gave you Hotmail was the MSN Premium services - and that's $10 per month?!? MS doesn't do a good job of making "Plus" accessible, much less promoting it.

Sigh. Days later and I still get the error 32. When will they fix this?!?

The error 32 comes up if their server[s] is busy. Keep trying. romeyinfc: here -> http://get.live.com/mail/options
