In a post to the IE Blog yesterday, Microsoft confirmed that it is about to release the curious long-in-the-coming Release Candidate version of Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8)...

The version of IE8 in Windows 7 Beta is somewhat older than the Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate (IE8 RC1) that we're about to release for Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Over the past months, our compatibility team has been hard at work, finding and fixing bugs that cause site rendering issues. Due to the different release schedules for Windows 7 Beta and IE8 RC1, some of these bug fixes didn't make it into Windows 7 Beta (aka Build 7000). So, if you want to use the latest version of IE8 – you’ll want to install IE8 RC1 for Windows Vista or Windows XP.

Just like we did for IE8 Beta 2, we would love to get your feedback on IE8 RC1 rendering. Soon after we release IE8 RC1, we will blog again about using the Report a Webpage Problem Add-On to report site rendering issues. The data that you have uploaded with this tool in the past has been very useful in our efforts to find and fix rendering issues - thank you very much for helping us out.

Put another way, Windows 7 Beta users won't be getting the IE 8 RC1 release.

Well, that sucks. As a primary WIndows 7 user, I was hoping I'd be able to update to the new IE8 when it was released. Now I guess I'll need to wait until the Windows 7 RC is released.

No shit Sherlock! With DRM and more expensive! Excellent. Microsoft has no clue. No blog post about this today?

As for IE8, don't rush to put it in Windows 7. I'm sure the EU won't want it there.

@dipshtadmin: A trojan is something OS X nor Windows can stop. These idiots downloaded pirated software and gave it permission to run. Hard to stop. Now, go back to your anti-virus and anti-spyware and make sure it's all running and uptodate. Me, I'm just gonna get stuff done. Don't have to worry about that EVER!

No comments from Paul about last results for Google/MS and Apple ? Well who cares about Apple, nobody buys their products with their 3% marketshare all the more on the Supersite for Windows blog.

dave, check out Paul's other property, as there is coverage on WindowsITPro. rj, boy relates to your age, not some racist comment. And guess what. Most infections on Windows happen the same way, requiring user intervention.

About this latest EU case. It seems to me that what they're after, is for microsoft to stop tying IE to windows, or in other words, to release IE for other OSes? I thought the intention was that all these internal intranet sites made specificaly for IE, tie a company into using Windows. If IE was on other platforms, then businesses could run Linux, or OSX, and not have to change over their infrastructure. That's how I understood it anyway.

IE8 seems pretty solid in WIn 7 I'm still using it in Vista and it's okay, it was unusable in XP. Firefox 3.1 works considerably better for me than 3.0 for some reason Opera is joke its almost as bad as Safari.

Anyone else find IE8 on Win7 to be extremely unstable? I get at least one crash daily. Other than that, it's OK (although I think the search bar that replaced the modal search is a huge improvement)

I keep getting these strange "Ie8 has crashed" things in win7, even though it hasn't. It automagically sends a report back to microsoft, but remains open, and fully functional. odd.

IE is my primary browser and with IE8, I think Microsoft has done a nice job. I really like using the browser and its features like group tabs, accelerators, the great search bar and new address bar (though the latter was copied from FF) but I wish IE8 would have better ways to changing the layout of the browser, which as removing the Favorites star from the Favorites Bar and move it to where FF placed it. I'm looking forward to IE8 RC 1

Please God, no. IE8 Beta in Win7 is such a piece of junk. Its like MS is trying to make another FireFox and failing miserably. There are too many colors, too many boxes, too many tool bars and the damn thing doesn't render pages correctly, even in compatability mode. IE7 works fine, it may have security bugs but it flipping works. Please no IE8.

Ok.. I just installed Windows 7 build 7057 onto my 17″ macbook pro (early 2009 model). I got everything running except the wifi. It seems to show a live connection available but refuses to get online. I installed all the drives from my leopard 10. 5 cd
