iPhone and iPod touch updated to 1.1.2

And yes, it breaks the iPhone "jailbreak" applications, despite not mentioning it:

This document describes the security content of the iPhone v1.1.2 and iPod Touch v1.1.2 Updates, which can be downloaded and installed via iTunes.

iPhone v1.1.2 and iPod Touch v1.1.2 Updates: ImageIO

Impact: Viewing a maliciously crafted TIFF image may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.

This update is only available through iTunes, and will not appear in your computer's Software Update application, or in the Apple Downloads site.

There's a lot more going on in this download. It adds a cool charging icon in iTunes so you can see the status of the device's battery. You can actually create events in the device Calendar app now (what a concept). And more international languages are supported.

I'm dizzy from your spin. Apple closes a security hole, and you call it "breaking an application". Wow.

Actually, Jailbreak is a hack, not an app, and it has already been made compatible with v1.1.2. I do not think that it is the responsibility of Apple to notify you that a hack or any unsupported software can become incompatible with Apple updates. It is the responsibility of the third party apps to tell you this, as well as create updates and patches. This has been the case for as long as I can remember, Apple or Microsoft. Microsoft never told me that many of my apps were not compatable with XP when it rolled out. The patches/updates came later, from the developer from the app. Duh! One would hope that these patches are not aimed at disabling such apps on the iPhone, but I sure as heck don't know. I am still waiting for the Palm Centro to get to ATT. Pray with me guys, as this could make a nice Christmas present for me. Question to anyone. Does anyone know of custom PC sites for my friends? I have used CyberpowerPC, and know of some pricey ones like Alienware. Any more? Thanks as always, Doc

Actually daveinla, my comment is exactly what Microsoft and Apple do, and has been the norm for as long as I can remember. If you do not know this, then you are the stupid one, dumbass. Why do you people need to be so rude, especially when you are wrong. It's unbelievable. Oh well, up yours dumbass, and learn to read or comment on things that you actually know about.

I'm assuming Paul is taking a piss? What's the point of spinning all things Apple on this blog? If you have to report Apple news, would it kill you to report it like you report on MS? I actually respected your posts on Nexus because they were fairly balanced but this blog is only proving what a Microsoft shill you really are. First of all, jailbreak apps are not supported by Apple therefore it's in no way their obligation to inform users that their unsupported apps won't work with the supported update. Also, it's not like jailbreaking your phone is as simple as downloading an app and installing it. You won't find Mom and Dad hacking their iPhones and for the people who do take the time to jailbreak their phone, they should be smart enough to check on whether the new version is jail-broken before upgrading. If they are just finding out their jailbroken apps are broken after installing the update then they probably have no business hacking their phone/ipod in the first place. Anyway this is all moot considering the 1.1.2 update was jailbroken before it was even released to the public. As for the lack of updates in this release, what do you expect from a 0.0.1 upgrade?? I'm actually a little suprised you didn't write a few paragraphs about how this is an evolutionary rather than revolutionary upgrade. Oh and this news is almost a week old. Getting Apple updates on this blog is the equivalent of trying to get the NY Times delivered to the west coast via horse and buggy.

Doc WAM, by saying +1 to what I quoted meant I totally agreed with you !!!!! Then I added that Paul's comment was totally stupid and ignorant. I was not talking about your comment which was right on target ! sorry for the confusion

Dave, I kinda realized that after I blew a fuse and posted, so sorry dude. I have 3 friends in the past 2 days calling for setup instructions for their new Macs. One 20 in iMac, one 24 in iMac and a Pro Tower. Although they bought them within the past 4 days, they all have Tiger installed and I walked them through setup only to find out they they needed to upgrade to Leopard [a separate upgrade DVD in the box], all when my wife and I have our 2 hr TV time after putting the kids to bed. It wasn't just the OS [s], but email with all of our work stuff as well as discussing iWork vs MS Office. Steve J oughta give me a rebate. Please forgive my bipolar behavior dude. Doc
