Merry Christmas ... from Apple iTunes!

Apple has posted a free Christmas music sampler in iTunes LP format, so you get the songs as well as some bonus material that will work only in iTunes (PC, Mac) or on the Apple TV. But what the heck, it's free, right? And there are actually some decent songs in there too, if you're of a Christmas persuasion. Click HERE to open the download page in iTunes. Here's the song list:

  1. O Come All Ye Faithful - Amy Grant
  2. The First Noel - David Archuleta
  3. Silent Night - Sarah McLachlan
  4. Carol of the Bells/Jingle Bells - Barry Manilow
  5. It Snowed - Meaghan Smith
  6. Above the Northern Lights - Manheim Steamroller
  7. Baby It’s Cold Outside - Lady Antebellum
  8. We Three Kings - Toby Keith
  9. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Rascal Flatts
  10. Silent Night - Wynonna
  11. 12 Days of Christmas - Mexicani Marimba Band
  12. We Wish You a Merry Christmas - Weezer
  13. A Snowflake Fell (and It Felt Like a Kiss) - Glasvegas
  14. Another Christmas Song - Stephen Colbert
  15. Greensleeves - Vince Guaraldi
  16. Dream a Dream - Charlotte Church
  17. The Nutcracker, Op. 71, Act 2: Character Dances - Kirov Orchestra & Valery Gergiev
  18. Angels We Have Heard on High - Aretha Franklin

Nice list. Even though it's iTunes, I'll probably still check these out. Plus, it's free, minus the opportunity cost that is. :-) Funny though, I just downloaded iTunes yesterday. I've gone almost a month without having it on my PC and then I had to watch something with QuickTime and figured, why not download iTunes as well. Now I'm somewhat glad I did. Thanks for the link, Paul.

Of course, the Zune market place is offering 7 free holiday tunes this week, probably 7 more next week ...

The bigger story is the purchase of LaLa. Paul constantly whines about itunes needing to be rebuilt from the ground up, this purchase will probably spur just that event. He'll probably have a hard time deviating away from his template of 'itunes blows'.

Hey if they change it to be better paul will like it. he like the early versions of iTunes compared to what WMP was, its just the interface of iTunes got clunky and it got bloated, if they make it better I might might check it out, see as I do not have a mp3 player.

Overheard at Paul's house on Christmas morning when he was a child: Dad: Paul, I got you a pony for Christmas! Paul: But it's brown! I wanted black! Dad: Paul, it's a pony Paul: But it only works outside! Dad: Paul, it's a pony! Paul: What the heck, it's free, right?

"Overheard at Paul's house on Christmas morning when he was a child: ....What the heck, it's free, right?" Sounds like what happens when Pogue reviews anything sent from Apple. http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=6420

"Paul constantly whines about itunes needing to be rebuilt from the ground up, this purchase will probably spur just that event." Fat chance, bucko. You see, Apple wouldn't have a way to surreptitiously install Bonjour, Safari, Apple Software Update, and other crapware on your PC if they kept Lala as is - as a web site. "Come on Wae and lotsa...just kiss already...and use some tongue!" ....much like robertsjoe and Ocean, you're like that 'roid that keeps coming back. (thought you left....)

tayme, considering where Wae usually has his head, I'm inclined to pass on that offer. I'm not a fan of e coli. You, OTOH, are already full of it, so it shouldn't affect you at all. Pucker up, buttercup.

"Microsoft Ends GPL Saga and Posts WUDT Source Code" Microsoft stealing, yet again, and they got caught. Nothing to applaud about.

You are correct NoName. It was I who kept posting that iTunes blows. I've gotten used to it on the Mac, but rarely use it. [iPhone]. The wife wants an iPhone now, so it looks like it must be installed on her PC. Yuck! Does anyone know if the HTC Hero or HTC Touch Pro2 are any good? One of the docs does not want to leave Sprint, and needs a big screen [he's 70] and Exchange/activesync.

Funny, I just finished installing a VM of XP strictly to keep itunes sandboxed from Windows 7. I don't need three startup items and a couple services running just use the horror that is itunes every few weeks.

I'm not much of an iTunes consumer, so this was my first look at the LP format. I'm sure that was part of Apple's motivation. Very nice demonstration. Plenty of media, links to related content. Something to look at while you're listening. I had the same reaction Ocean did when I saw Steven Colbert, but it was really quite good.
