Microsoft statement on Windows Home Server PP3

I guess there's been some confusion around the final release date for Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 (PP3). Microsoft has this to say about the issue today:

On July 17, 2009, Microsoft announced the Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 Beta, which will improve the Windows Home Server experience with Windows 7 and Windows Media Center. Microsoft received tremendous community support and helpful feedback from beta testers. Based on this feedback and to ensure product quality, we will continue with additional testing of the software.  We will not ship the final release of Power Pack 3 until the community has validated our work. We expect to deliver before the end of the year. For those Windows 7 users who do not have the Beta installed, there are a few important scenarios they should be aware of. These scenarios can be addressed by downloading and installing the Power Pack 3 Beta for the most optimal experience for Windows 7 users on a Windows Home Server network.

More info is available on the Windows Home Server blog.

I'm assuming the recently deleted blog post on this broke an embargo or something?

Glad to hear they're waiting until the major bugs are worked out but I like to keep beta software off my server, thank you very much.

great post on the 'great' new microsoft ads. Might I remind everyone that Paul also loved the Seinfeld ads. Not exactly a resume enhancer for critiquing future ads. he said about the second one [too bad they didn't release their third ad for him to drool over]: So the first commercial garnered a lot of hateful pushback from the iCabal, but come on. This second one is just excellent. You have to be a special sort of curmudgeon not to see that. Nice!

Quick question: What is Microsoft's antimalware strategy for Windows Home Server? WHS-connected PC's?

So I take this to mean that PP3 will not be available at the same time as Windows 7 RTM (and so, anyone planning to upgrade any of their client PC's to Windows 7 should hold off until PP3 is generally available, or else risk running the beta).

K, dunno why that double-posted.

Waethorn, OT - correction to a post of yours in a currently closed topic. Steve Wozniak didn't found the Homebrew Computer Club although he was a member. It was a spin off of the People's Computer Company and was started by Fred Moore and Gordon French. There's a good discussion of PCC and HCC in John Markoff's excellent book, "What the Dormouse Said: How the Sixties Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer Industry" (which also explains why people would start a computer company when they weren't in it for the money)

"How the Sixties Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer Industry" Is that why the Apple logo is rainbow colored and apparently a reference to the gay Alan Turing?

hamilton Nope. The rainbow flag as an LGBT icon didn't occur until mid 1978. Apple's 7-color logo replace the Isaac Newton logo in 1976.

@ham: Wow! I never thought of it that way. The logo explains a lot though.... >;)
