Microsoft to launch beta of Internet Explorer 8

CNET:

Microsoft will shortly make available the test version of Internet Explorer 8, which is set for final release in the first half of this year.

Really? I can't imagine IE 8 will ship in the first half of 2008. This is almost certainly a typo, though we'll know more at MIX 08, next week, when Microsoft will formally announce the beta and show off IE 8 for the first time. My guess is the second half of 2008 at the earliest.

UPDATE: The article is incorrect as expected. On the IE Blog, it says that "a beta version of Internet Explorer 8 will be released in the first half of 2008."

My understanding is that the IE 8 Beta 1 invites, to date, have only gone out to the MSN "Butterflies," a group of testers who have tested such things as MSN Explorer and MSN Messenger. However, IE 8 Beta 1 will be made available to the public, of course.

"The article is incorrect as expected. On the IE Blog, it says that "a beta version of Internet Explorer 8 will be released in the first half of 2008." That's not to be unexpected from CNet. They announced the same thing when the Windows Vista RC0 private beta came out, but they still considered it "released".

I hope IE 8 will do something to quiet all the noise with Firefox. I've used Firefox and I absolutely dislike it. It doesn't render webpages very well. Even common ones like Yahoo Mail. If it can't do that, then whats all the fuss about? I'll stick with IE 7 and wait for IE8.

subzerohitman721, Not that I'm knocking any one browser but I can use Yahoo mail with both Firefox 2.0.0.x and the latest nightly builds of Firefox 3 no problem. There was a problem seen during the early builds of Firefox 3 but that was a glitch on Yahoo's end of things than a problem in Firefox 3. There are problems with some site renderings though especially those coded strictly for IE (use of Active X especially) and with a few sites incorporating certain types of (badly coded?) Java scripts. Still, I use Firefox as my main browser and IE 7.0 (with the IE7Pro add-on installed) for those few sites that use Active X or are coded strictly for IE and exhibit rendering problems when viewed in Firefox.
