Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.0 Now Available

From Panda:

After 7 months in beta testing, Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.0 FREE Edition is finally available. You can download it from http://www.cloudantivirus.com.

In version 1.0 we have improved most of the issues submitted during the testing period. Some of the improvements it incorporates are:

- Supports Windows Vista and Windows 7 64bits.

- Ability to restore any neutralized file.

- Improved detection & protection against rootkits.

- Free Technical Support forums.

Remember that Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.0 is 100% FREE for home users and non-profit organizations and schools. In adition, you can install it in multiple PCs.

So it's available in a 64-bit version now, which is nice (and necessary). I happen to prefer Microsoft Security Essentials, but I found Panda Cloud Antivirus to be effective and lightweight, which is pretty much all you can ask of a Windows AV product.

What are the advantages of having a cloud based antivirus program as opposed to have one local to your system?

I think the benefit is having real-time updates instead of the once-a-day updates that most AV products offer.

"I think the benefit is having real-time updates instead of the once-a-day updates that most AV products offer." How can one assume that they can provide real-time updates? The way conventional antivirus works is, someone has to report a problem, they have to personally investigate the problem, then issue a response in the form of preventionary measures that get applied to the security software. How does Panda do it any differently? By utilizing community information on websites? How is that any different from Microsoft Spynet, or any other AV vendor that collects user information automatically about unknown threats, or their own proactive team that actively seeks out online threats ahead of time? I smell a bamboo-eating con artist.

Would the best antivirus solution be to have one local to your computer and use an online scanner for a second opinion if needed? I have Security Essentials installed on my both of my computers and use ESET's online virus scanner to double check everynow and again to make sure nothing has slipped by me.

The advantage is disk space. You don't have to load up your hard drive with all those constant updates and signatures. Just the base program to scan, send, receive, and follow removal instructions. I can see the advantage of having an anti-virus in the cloud. If the anti-virus could run in a sandbox, even with local infections couldn't impede a very basic implementation of this anti-virus. You could heal local infections and restore files there by insuring the viability. Now I doubt the sand-boxing happens yet, but I think that would be the next logical evolution of this program. Oh and Wae, you intentionally wrote that URL wrong. There is no quotation mark in the URL for www.cloudantivirus.com This really doesn't help your case when you intentionally miswrite URL addresses. Paul's link works just fine. Not cool my man, not cool.
