Tonight: Zune System Maintenance

A little heads-up from the Zune team:

As part of our continued efforts to improve the service, Zune is undergoing scheduled maintenance that will prevent you from renting and purchasing content for up to 24 hours starting 10:00 pm (PST) on January 25th. Your local video and music library will continue to be available during this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,
Your friends at Zune

Apparently, this is just routine maintenance and no new features are forthcoming.

Of course no new features are coming. Microsoft is doing what they have always been doing. Watch what Apple does tomorrow and sell it using the following format - Microsoft: we made square wheels. - Apple: we made them round. - Microsoft: but we made them first!

The timing and longevity of this is pretty interesting.

I'd really be worried about using the service if the local video and music were not available during the downtime.

Once again, Logjamming shows a lack of common courtesy and consideration for others, and proving what a jerk he is. It seems to me that in this day and age, 24 hours of downtime is unacceptable for any commercial website.

Why waste time posting this when it only affects 3 people in the world?

"It seems to me that in this day and age, 24 hours of downtime is unacceptable for any commercial website." If it means they'll finally have an international rollout of the Zune Marketplace, I welcome it.

Well the 50 Zunes users worldwide must be pretty active in order to force MS to a maintenance of their system !!!

Oh I do long for the day when I see a Zune HD being sold in the UK. A boy can dream...

Post some numbers about how well the Zune is doing. Should be good for a laugh.

@ robertsjoe "Why waste time posting this when it only affects 3 people in the world?" Which is still three times the number of people that give a hoot about your trolling comments. Xbox live is still available. I don't think there are enough folks using the marketplace for it to matter all that much if it's 24 or 48 hours.

I don't follow numbers, but I know I have about 6000 songs I downloaded for my Zune last year and it cost 180 dollars. I get to keep 120 songs permanently, that works for me. The Zune has a better podcast client and works seamlessly, the itune podcast client required far more hands on last time I used it, it was the original reason I dumped it. The Zune sounds better to me. Use what you want, why the wee people choose to troll sites like this tells me more about them than any witty banter they think they're engaging in. They must be real productive people in their real lives, if they have any at all.

Whiplash55....I use the itouch and I'm not sure what you mean by hands on time. I know I pretty much click a link, or I can just cut and past the url...I think it takes all of 2 seconds to subscribe. I like the iTouch because of the eco system around iPods. I didn't much care for the look of the old Zune, but the new one is MUCH better looking. But at this point, I'm happy with the iTouch and my son with his classic iPod. But certainly I'm not militant about it; I agree with Tayme on that point; use what works for you.
