Top 10 Tech Podcasts: #5, Windows Weekly

A nice bit of praise from Automated Home, which is much appreciated:

Podcasts, netcasts, time shifted radio and IPTV.  Whatever they are, they've come of age.  Less and less of my time is spent consuming regular TV and Radio these days as my hunger for tech-tainment grows.  I listen to podcasts on the way to and from work in the car.  I watch video podcasts on my PC in my lunch break.  I listen to tech shows on the lawnmower and I even fall asleep listening to them at night.

Never before has there been such a variety of shows, or quality of production. If you aren't subscribed to some tech shows you are certainly missing out.  So after years of listening and much deliberating here's our top 10 technology podcasts recommendations

5.  Windows Weekly

Home Page | iTunes | RSS

Format: Audio / Typical Length: 45 mins

Paul Thurrott joins Leo Laporte for a weekly chat on Windows.  Paul tells it like it is and his obvious passion for the OS doesn't automatically mean he's a Microsoft fan-boy.  Regularly the chat turns to Mac too and in recent shows he's revealed his laptop of choice is a MacBook, his mobile is an iPhone and he's a .Mac subscriber too.  His regular trips to Richmond provide a good insight into what's coming from the mighty MS.  He's a fan of Windows Media Center and Windows Home Server and his pick of the week always brings an interesting new app or service that’s worth checking out.

Thanks! --Paul

I totally agree, an unbiased podcast with honest reviews and thoughts. What more could you want? Hat's of to Paul and Leo for giving me my weekly fix. :) I bet the community for the podcast is quite strong, Do you have some sort of idea of how many people tune in each week paul?

I like how Leo likes to flip-flop on WW to say how he likes Windows Vista, Zune, and Microsoft's cloud-computing initiatives, as opposed to his usual anti-Microsoft, daringfireball-incited banter that follows on Macbreak Weakly, This Week in Tech, and most of the other TWiT sessions. (Who the hell calls their kid Merlin, anyway?)

@Waethorn Its know but you get used Leo's Bias. He can't stand Microsoft and he does his best to suppress. WW used to horrible earlier on when Paul had to qualify everything w.r.t Apple. Now its probably the best podcast on the TWiT network.

... I'm curious though... do you get paid for the podcasts since they are sponsored (thank you Audible)? if so - big bucks? :)

I bought Windows and other MS products and use those products daily - but somehow I'm still a member of the iCabal. But then again different standards apply to apple and apple fans.

"He can't stand Microsoft and he does his best to suppress." It's funny how easy it is for a Microsofty to flip off the iField(TM) switch and turn on a bit of reality. ....just like Gates, when he was interviewed with Jobs on the Chief iCabalists' stage (ie. @D6)....shut him down good! In case you didn't see it from my link in the other article: http://preview.microsoft.com/video/videoDetails.aspx?video=5b0e3385-8f48... Just funny stuff!

Home automation. Try Active Home Pro with X10. I love it. Keypadlinc is terrific. The wife and kids can turn off/on lights and outletsemote, program them on the computer or use our two 8 button keypads asuch as turn off the outside lights or sunroom lights from upstairs, when the switch is downstairs. I have the telephone transponder and can turn them on or off from anywhere in the country.

Just so you know, Paul: your good ol' buddy, the head twit himself, Leo, proclaimed on his latest "**THE** Tech Guy" (emphasis on "the"), that "AAC is the successor to MP3". ....on a related side-note, he also called it "Apple AAC". Hilarious!

Gotta admit, I hang for the Windows Weekly podcast each week. Good work Paul, I also love Leo's other efforts as well, but I originally found it through this site.

Paul, You are officially the first podcast that I've subscribed to on iTunes. Been enjoying them while I watch the kiddos tear up the house, LOL. (The kids hijack the Noggin channel and I can stand only so much.) In all seriousness, its good to keep aprised on the ins and outs of the Windows World. It gives me and my brother some great stuff to discuss, because his full time IT job doesn't give him much browsing time. Great job and keep up the fantastic work.
