Worst blog post ever? Or worst blog ever?

I used to think of lazy bloggers as being the bottom feeders of the web. (You know, people who blog about absolutely nothing and then end the post with, "Thoughts?" or "Discuss!" in some weird bid to get an actual conversation going.) But this one takes the cake.

In a post to the new Chrome OS Leak blog, this guy posts supposed pics of the Chrome OS and then says...

I am putting my career and notability on the line in this!

He then proceeds to sign the post anonymously. LOL. Way to put yourself out on a limb there!

BTW, the pictures are lame too. :) But the post is worth reading, assuming it's real.

UPDATE: It's not real. What a loser!

Ha!!! That is hilarious. Obviously a fake! But, obviously there is buzz spreading about Chrome OS, which is waht Google was after. --tayme

I have a hard time believing this is real to begin with. Amusing, though, that someone might suggest they're putting their job and reputation on the line for such uninteresting photos.

"Worst blog post ever?" "Thoughts?" Bravo losta for criticizing Paul yet again. That's twice this week you've called our host something inflamatory: calling him "mediocre" a couple days ago, and today, calling him a "loser". You are an a$$.

It is a pretty lame effort, but I find it amusing the amount of attention Google is getting for a "commitment to developing" an OS. Mind you, I think Goonix would have been a better name for it, and I would never use it outside of a test lab, because I just can't bring myself to trust the company's business model, but it's still getting a lot of publicity. It's amazing to see people either discredit it or glorify it when it doesn't even exist in a usable form yet.

"It's amazing to see people either discredit it or glorify it when it doesn't even exist in a usable form yet." I don't think you can glorify it when it doesn't exist, but based on their business model (advertising), you can certainly discredit the attempt by questioning their motives. Why did newspapers fail, again?

So Google is labeled as a "One Trick Pony" and they attempt to create a second business to redress the critism and they are going to fail at this because certain people simply want them to? Witness yesterday on this blog when what was talked about, no Google and it merits of how this is doomed to fail because its not from Microsoft. Seems there are plenty of people that are wishing for this to fail in the worst way for no other reason then its from Google, ergo not Microsoft being synonymous with bad. The question is why, I don't have to really ask for the answer as anyone can figure that one out.

Chrome OS: The web browser OS, whoohoo. I'm so curious as to what they hope to do. My suspicion is that it's not going to be interesting or useful, but I'll test it on release.

Dude Actually, Google is not a one trick pony because they haven't tried to do other things. They have tried. Lots and lots of times and despite vast sums spent on acquisitions and huge amounts of developer time they only have one product that's ever been a success - text advertising tuned to user data. As for why people are suspicious of a Google OS, consider a couple of things: 1) They haven't actually shown anything or even described the product. 2) They make their living by selling data they collect about you. 3) Their privacy policies are worse than the other major players in the industry 4) They provide collected data they've acquired on people to some rather shady government agencies in several countries resulting in end user harm But, hey, you can pretend that it's all some wierd conspiracy to promote Microsoft.

"They provide collected data they've acquired on people to some rather shady government agencies in several countries resulting in end user harm" Let's not forget that although they claim that they don't sell information to "third-parties", though they do claim to provide information to "partners and affiliates". Who are they? Why, the people that pay for ads and do business with Google - that's who!. And if you look at their ad filtering (read: lack of) that can include links to the same kinds of groups that distribute spyware, adware, trojans, and other malicious websites that would do things like install WinFixer clones (ie. WinAntivirus XP and the like) on your computer to sucker you out of your money, could you really trust them to hold your personal info away from a someone that could steal your identity or credit card? You know, somebody that pays for advertising through Websense? The biggest laugh about them: Google Checkout! LOL! That's just hilarious - a Google-branded money laundering operation.

"yep like pretending that Microsoft works for the benevolence of mankind" Both companies make money - and lots of it. Google makes it on selling your personal information. Microsoft makes it on selling software. Which one is more trustworthy? There is only one correct answer.

I don't think a full web based OS like Chrome OS is something that I would want. Microsoft and Apple are following hybrid models, which, in my opinion is a lot better. There are some things I want on my desktop and some on the cloud. PC storage is a lot cheaper than online storage. Why would I want to put everything I have on the net?

"Their privacy policies are worse than the other major players in the industry" You and "waethorn" keep prattling on about Google and privacy, but in "waethorn's" homeland, there is no expectation of privacy on the Internet anyway. That comes from Canada's Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan. From the slashdot summary: "He was adamant that in regard to IP addresses, names, cell phone numbers, and email addresses: '...that is not the kind of information about which Canadians have a legitimate expectation of privacy.' " So rest easy, "waethorn". Google isn't taking anything from you that your own Country wouldn't already nab. http://www.tvo.org/cfmx/tvoorg/theagenda/index.cfm?page_id=3&action=blog...

You're comparing Google selling personal information to advertisers to ISP's lawfully releasing private information to law enforcement under court-ordered warrant? LOL! You make me laugh. Your own government has that about 100x worse too. Go ahead and type "I'm going to kill the president" on your PC, er, Mac, losta, and see how fast the FBI comes knocking on your door.

Waethorn Just an FYI: It would be the Secret Service and not the FBI that would come knocking on Lotsa's door. (No smugness here, I have no idea which Canadian agency handles things like that in Canada but suspect it would have a catchy name like "Intelligence Canada" or "Secrecy Canada" if it exists at all. I remember running into PM Trudeau back when he was in office walking along a fairly dark street around 1AM in Toronto with no security visible so they're either very discrete or very limited.)

speaking of the google OS, what's going to happen to Haiku? I thought they had google backing or something?
Waethorn
on Jul 9, 2009
@mike: It's called CSIS.
Waethorn
on Jul 9, 2009
@mike: The PM usually has RCMP undercover guards on duty. CSIS is just the information-gathering dept. Security on the PM is discrete, but the PM doesn't hold absolute power in office either. The party in office mandates policies mostly. The PM is just the representative party leader for the party voted into power, and they don't necessarily get the final say.

shark47
on Jul 9, 2009
@Dude: On the contrary, people are praising it to the skies because it is a Google product. If Microsoft announced a product, most people (including paul) would label it vaporware. There's little information about the OS, except that it's not from MS. That itself is enough to get everyone talking about how Google will kill Microsoft. I'm sure on the next TWIT show, Paul and Leo will spend an hour talking about how Google is kicking Microsoft's butt and how much Exchange, Windows, Windows Server, etc. suck. For people like Paul and Leo, Exchange is overkill, yes, but it's amusing to see how easily they dismiss something they don't understand.

Wait! That wasn't one of the choices! ;P Redirection will not work on me. You made a useless comment earlier, I called you on it, so you respond with yet another useless comment that focuses more on my (rather pithy) response rather than answering my question. If you can't stand Paul's posts, or even Paul as a person (seeing as he is obviously a "loser") why are you here?
