Zune.net Updates

Nice. Christian Puzder covers some cool updates to the Zune.net web site:

Zune.net got some much wanted new features. Most important is the ability to "follow" and artist so that you receive updates when on the bands you follow are on tour and will be in you area, and feed aggregation which allows users to add news sites to a band’s bio page. These are small but important features for Zune which has distinguished itself with its Social for users who love music. These simple new feature make the ability to keep up with your favorite band even easier.

On a particular artist's page will be a feed aggregator that users, like yourself, can add links to.

In addition to this feature, the new social also lets users preview/watch artist's videos from within the social page, and aggregates tour date info in the artist's social page. All these feature really make the Zune further embolden the Zune as the digital music service for the music fan.

Nice features. Gotta give them credit for continuing to enhance the social networking side of the thing, which is their best hook. Christian Puzder needs to proofread.

Very cool and these are features that become more valuable as the community starts adding more links and feeds. Nice job Zune team.

Too bad mikegalos hijacked Paul's other thread and took away the attention from the Zune team...attention that they deserve!!! Good job! --tayme

The Zune is dead. Get over it. Four people have bought it.

The follow option is on the Zune.net Canada site too. The "Buy" option always says the same thing: that the song isn't available for purchase from Zune, and that they're searching for a resale partner, yada yada....it then takes you to shopping search results via Bing Shopping, all of which lead you to websites like Amazon US, Buy.com, Walmart, and the like to which Canadian customers can't even order anything - even though Bing's language settings are set to Canada (English)!!! FRUSTRATING! What I see is good hardware, good software, and a lack of an online marketplace that will just push [Canadian] users to use illegal channels (ie. Limewire) to obtain their music. That's too bad too. There ARE good Canadian services offering music. Bing doesn't list them on the shopping results though - it doesn't carry Canadian-specific shopping results at all, whereas the old MSN Shopping site always did (it was still called "MSN Shopping" even after MSN Search became Live Search). Now, the MSN Shopping site has become defunct. The only music source listed on the site for CD's is Indigo CD's and Books (Indigo is a division of Chapters. Do they have Chapters in the US?). I'd like to see a bigger online source for music in Canada. Something that's a one-stop shop for any MP3 player. iTunes doesn't have the totally DRM-free tiered song prices in Canada, and so most people still download MP3's illegally. Inmusic is a good site, but they don't promote it enough. They (Puretracks - the company that holds the library) used to offer deals with Pepsi Canada for those pop bottle cap liners where you could download free songs. Ad campaigns like that would certainly help again. Zune Canada at least makes an effort to drive interest with local musicians, but it doesn't go far enough to get people to actually buy music, and I think that's the last hurdle to get over before they make the platform actually attractive to consumers. Apple doesn't have nearly the presence or marketshare of MP3 players that it does in the US either.

"Thank God for that! The world doesn't want it." Since you said not to take you seriously, I'll just assume the opposite is true, and you're #1 on the WANT list.
