Clicked the link, got to download a pdf converter I didn't want, but no sign of the download link for the book. Did I miss something? Not very happy to now have uninstall a pdf convertor.

Click on "Get it now" (lower center) not "Download" which is lower right

That is not the fault of Microsoft, but an underhanded tactic by those trying to promote their software products.
They produce an ad with a pretty generic "download" button that is often very difficult to recognise as an ad or to distinguish it from that to download a product you are actually wanting.
Due to there being often little to no indication of it being an ad they often do catch people out.
