HTC Titan to Debut on AT&T Wireless on November 20

So it looks like "coming soon" is indeed soon: AT&T revealed today, via its Facebook page of all places, that the HTC Titan, which sports a mammoth 4.7-inch screen but an incredibly thin form factor, will debut on November 20, just 11 days from now.

"Debuting as the largest screen in our smartphone portfolio at 4.7 inches, the HTC TITAN will be available on 11/20 for $199.99," post notes. "2-year contract & minimum $15 per month data plan required."

The HTC Titan is further differentiated by being the one handset in the Windows Phone lineup that has a camera that can rival the Apple iPhone 4S. For this reason, I'll be buying one for myself.

I previously posted some hero shots of HTC's Windows Phone 7.5 lineup, which of course includes the Titan.

You guys are lucky. Up here in Canada, none of the big 3 have announced anything about the 2nd gen phones and Bell Canada has actually removed all it's Windows Phones from it's website. ...but it's raining iPhones, Androids and Blackberries.... So depressing..

That's the biggest problem with WP7 - 2nd gen devices with mediocre specs (especially max of 16 GB non-expandable memory - with tiered/capped data no one wants most of their stuff in the cloud - plus in WP7 you can't stream from skydrive except with a workaround). Also, so far the only carrier with new phones is ATT. Waiting until CES to announce new phones (Verizon, TMo and Sprint) is not going to stop the onslaught of high end Android phones and the never ending march of iPhones. It's a shame - a third competitor would be great.

Paul, I'm curious to know what you think of the review that the Guardian gave to this phone and the WP7 OS. To put it mildly, they were not impressed! The phone issues I can understand (large size and therefore awkward to use etc) but the criticisms of the OS are new to me and are well reasoned, to the point where I was really put off the idea of getting ANY WP7 device, let alone a Titan. What do you think? Link for the review is: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/nov/09/htc-titan-mango-windows...

As a baby boomer with slowly deteriorating eyesight(age 62) a large screen is a must. I currently use an HTC Incredible that I thought had a nice large screen...until I started using it almost two years ago. As as a Windows user for over 20 years, I would appreciate having Windows software on a phone. But what about 4G? Will 3G be adequate to perform all the necessary functions for which I use a phone? Since this is AT&T, I assume 4G is not a current consideration. John

So now the question is: Stay committed to Samsung and get the Focus S, wait 10 days and get the Titan, or wait 3+ months and get the US version of the Nokia 800? Why can't MS put a little pressure on the handset providers to commit to a firm launch date across the board for the phone lineup? That's one thing Apple does well, "here's the new phone, in all of it's flavors, and it's available on this day." If the Windows Phone full lineup could come together as a united front, the threat to the iPhone, in my opinion, would finally materialize. By staggering one phone this month, another three weeks later, and possibly the top of the line 3 months (possibly longer, and without giving specs for the US version) later, it's building consumer remorse into it's product. "Yeah, the Samsung looks nice, but there's the HTC coming, but the Nokia is coming out early next year. Hmmm, wonder if there's something better coming right after that? Screw it, I know what I'm getting with the iPhone and I won't even start to feel the need to upgrade for 12 months." I'm eligible to upgrade now and am sticking with WP, but it's frustrating to have to wait 3 months for something that's ready in Europe now.
