Zune Disappears from New Xbox Dashboard

Has anyone noticed that this week’s released screenshots of the New Xbox Dashboard conspicuously omit the Zune logo? If you look at the Music experience shot, below, you’ll see some generic music note graphics, but no Zune.

The Zune brand, of course, is being phased out. This is just the latest public-facing example of this slow migration.

The slow phase out contrasts with the public killing of MobileMe!

I hope they don't take out the Windows Media Center Extender functionality.

Sure. But it's not in the Music hub anywhere. You don't find that a little odd?

I thought "Music" on the Xbox 360 was always separate from Zune anyway? It might be possible that this is a screen from a non-US Xbox, since the Zune music store is US-only. In Canada, Zune Marketplace is available for video only and I don't remember if it's available anywhere else in the world at all.

As I said before though: when Microsoft makes a US-only release of anything, it's historically always gone bad.

it never was, wasn't it. I always thought that when you go to music and video on your Xbox it should immediately be Zune not a separate app. so noting really has changed

Here in Norway we don't have Zune. We still have the Music "Hub" in the 360. From there we can buy music to games like guitarhero, or play local music/music from the home network.
I have also tried the UK 360 and there they have the Zune. To play music with Zune there you have to start the Zune application.
I see in another picture that there is a Zune app in the apps "hub".
Hopefully the Zune tile will show up if you have a Zune subscription.
One can at least hope, I don't want to loose the Zune branding. :)
Did I see a Zune tile in Windows 8, or was that a dream. ;)

Yeah, it is a odd... Same as Major Nelson's wording on the Bing search...

"We are bringing Bing to Xbox. Bing on Xbox searches Netflix, Hulu Plus, ESPN, as well as our music, video and Xbox LIVE marketplaces to find exactly the entertainment you want to enjoy."

Weird, how he calls out the other brands. Same with the marketplace icons... Generic.

I expected them to officially kill of Zune at E3 by announcing a new entertainment brand (even if it was just Xbox Music, Xbox Movies) to go with their IPTV stuff. But then, this week, there's been lots of tweets about Zune and Zune Pass going into more international markets which makes me think that maybe nobody has a clue what's going on... And maybe the rumoured/suggested Xbox branding makes less sense now with all of the consumer-focussed Windows 8 stuff.
