Firefox vs. Windows Vista, Part 4: The Quickening

Hello, my name is Paul. I've been using Firefox 3 crash-free for exactly one week now. Sadly, my machine has succumbed to other addictions, er ah, software fatalities due to applications like Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Photoshop Elements, so my Vista Reliability Index has stalled a bit over the time period. You know, like Microsoft's stock price.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that Firefox 3 is running stably and without issue. Key to this turnaround was the support of extensions I can trust (like Glasser, Personal Menu, and Stylish) and my ignoring the calls of extensions I can't trust, like Hide Menubar. Thanks, too, to Mike at Mozilla. Your help has been much appreciated.

Not sure why, but now I need a drink.

Paul, Can you post an image of your latest Vista reliability graph. Also, do you know the exact algorithm Vista is using to calculate the reliability? Is it documented?

Paul, I was evaluation FF3 RC2 and installed the Hide Menubar extension. After using the extension for a day, FF automatically disabled the extension and would not allow me to re-enable it and provided the following prompt: "Extension is not compatible with this version of Firefox". I did a check for updates, and a new version was available. I think your work with Mozilla was directly related to this fix & update...

This is weird, no? I used Firefox exclusively for a year until a few days ago I increased my RAM from 1GB to 2GB. (I use vista). IMMEDIATELY after than firefox didn't work anymore. I reinstalled it several times, but whenever I lauched it, it crashed. Every single [expletive] time. I'm glad you're enjoying you wonderful experience with Firefox. I'm never installing it on my computer again. Wake me when Firefox 4 comes out.

If you're used to Hide Menubar, a good alternative I've been using in FF3 that is stable is Personal Menu - it offers the ability to have a menu button on the Navigation bar which is totally customisable, and to hide the menu bar.

covenant74 ... thanks. Coincidentally, that's exactly what I'm using now.

Me, I'm on the keep it simple plan for FF now. I have a pdf extension, and the enchanched forecast extension and thats it. I've noticed dumping my extensions from 15 down to 2 makes FF start as fast as IE7 now.

Hmmm... now can anyone get the Silverlight plug-in working properly in Firefox? Prior to beta 2, it crashed (as the Silverlight folks have documented, faulting Mozilla). Now it just shows the "Get Silverlight" icon.

@peter there is a known detection problem with some of MSFT powererd silverlight sites. Once those new scripts are updated it should be fine. Also you must upgrade to the lates silverlight(beta 2) otherwise it'll crash.
