My Phone open for sign-ups (US only?)

Microsoft My Phone page now has a sign-in button which lets you get on the waiting list. It may be US only, not sure. But it is first come, first serve. (Sorry for the late notice; we’re on vacation this week.)

Microsoft My Phone pre-registration

As we launch Microsoft My Phone, registration is limited and being made available to new users on a first-come first-serve basis. Please indicate if you would like to be notified (by e-mail) when you can sign-up for the service. We appreciate your interest and patience.

I just managed to register for the waiting list and I'm in the UK so it looks as though it's not restricted to just US.

Why does MS have yet another NEW sync option? isn't this supposed to be what Live Mesh does PLUS your computers etc? Why would I want another option? Why wouldn't I want to keep all this also synced and available on my PC and other devices? it just seems to be more of MS wasting time and resources with different efforts that really do the same thing with different levels off functionality and restrictions. This seems to be ONLY for Win mobile but Live Mesh for anything...right? Am I wrong here? What's wrong with one simple, elegant solution to this that spans all devices? What happens if I try to use this and Live Mesh...do I gat a "Live Mess"? Ugh... Anyway...what else can you expect from the people that STILL plan to sell multiple versions of Windows.

Probably a vain attempt to resuscitate Win Mobile. Unless they rebuild from scratch, this isn't going to make a dent in Win Mobile's real problems. Problems such as crashing frequently and just being woefully inadequite for a mobile phone OS. Win Mobile was originally designed for PDA's and not ever properly made as a Phone OS. Until MIcrosoft gets that part of it, Win Mobile will continue to lose to other players. It always felt to me like they just stitched the phone capabilities to Pocket PC to create Windows Mobile. Live Mesh works just fine. If it ain't broke, there's no need to fix this.

Not surprising that this link appears. MWC officially starts today. It bears repeating that Live Mesh was more of a platform than it was a product. Something like this builds on the Mesh platform. Also, look for a possible rebranding of WinMo, no doubt as they transition to 7. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/

At least they're much more cautious than Apple when rolling out new online service like that !!!

This is funny: < Q: My Phone does rhyme with iPhone. Were you wary of doing that, or was that part of your plot? Lees: No, no. My Phone is a feature. It's not even a brand, it's a feature. I didn't even notice it before you said it. Q: You didn't notice the rhyme? (Laughing.) Oh, come on. You guys didn't have deep internal discussions about the fact that it rhymed with the main product of one of your main competitors? Lees: No. < http://www.techflash.com/microsoft/Microsoft_exec_denies_knowledge_of_My...

@Ocean, all: "The brand is the Windows Phone." (note: not "Windows Mobile") -- from Ocean's link. I guess that's further evidence of a possible branding change coming with WM7, as was indicated on tech blogs a while back.

Not too shabby. I like the new Zune-like home screen. The honeycomb interface is all right. It needs a nice program manager like the one Palm Pre seems to have.
