MySpace, Hulu and more on Windows Live this week

From Microsoft:

23 new third-party feed partners and 4 new contacts partners will be rolling out globally on Windows Live this week, giving 500 million+ Windows Live customers even more ways to share their online lives and communicate with the people they care about.

What's New:

  • Feed partners available to consumers this week at http://home.live.com include MySpace, Hulu, Goodreads and a host of regional web companies (full list available here.)
  • New contacts partners, including AOL, Google and Hyves, join Facebook, hi5, LinkedIn and MySpace this week in allowing Windows Live customers to securely share and exchange contacts between Windows Live and these social networks.

With more than 50 leading global and regional web companies now available on Windows Live, customers can easily share their activities from across the Web from the sites that are most important to them.

More info on the Windows Live Blog:

Last year, when we updated Windows Live services, we added a broad range of partnerships with leading web companies, to make it simpler for you to share your activities across a number of popular web sites with the people you care about the most.

We know that you have a busy life online, with multiple accounts on separate websites for sharing different things in many different contexts – from blog posts to status updates to photos, and more. That’s why we keep adding more feed and contacts partners to Windows Live – so that you have one place to visit to see what your friends are up to, and one easy way of sharing updates with your network.

Not only does this help simplify your life online, it also opens up the possibility of discovery. By adding these feeds to your profile, you can help your friends discover new things and ideas they hadn’t known, and you will get the same experience by learning about some of the things they decide to share.

In April, we rolled out even more partnerships, including some of the most popular international sites for our customers around the world

Today, we are happy to announce that 23 new feed partners are rolling out in Windows Live this week. New feed partners span a variety of online destinations like blogging sites, music and video sites, photo sites, news sites, reviews sites, portals and social networks, including Blingee, BuddyTV, Goodreads, Hulu, Judy’s Book, MySpace, Newsvine, OleOle, Qik and SlideShare. For a complete list of Windows Live partners, click here.

Adding feeds to your Windows Live Profile is easy. Simply click “Add Web activities” on the left side of your Windows Live Profile page, and select the partner sites you’d like to add. For more detailed instructions on how to add these feeds see our previous blog post.

Also, starting today, you will be able to easily invite friends from AOL Google and Hyves to Windows Live, and vice versa. These contact partners join existing contact partners like Facebook and LinkedIn. By providing you the option to bring in your contacts from different networks, Windows Live makes it simple for you to manage your contact lists from one place by consolidating them on Windows Live. For a quick tutorial on how to share contacts between Windows Live and third party sites, refer to this previous blog post by Rob Dolin.

Everyone should see the comments about Pauls bad faith, personal attacks in his iTunes 9 review in this thread -- starting about 1:34PM: http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/09/14/vista-to... Paul, we expect better than this.

Ocean... I understand it get's boring sitting in your mom and dads basement spamming this website ALL day long... But come on, go back to your fanatical Apple forum and LOL/LULZ over there. Your making yourself look like a damn child. Grow up.

Ocean, the basis for Paul's remarks regarding iTunes 9 is found in his use of and reporting on Microsoft's Zune 3.1 software (existing in more or less its present form for more than two years now). It is clearly evident that the excellent Zune 3.1 software influenced iTunes 9. In some cases, iTunes 9 directly grafted Zune features and attempted to integrate them to iTunes 9. Paul echoes an opinion that Apple did so less well than they could have, and less well than Microsoft did originally. Paul's observations include these observations and sum up with the recommendation that Apple re-write an entirely new iTunes application. While Zune software will get another update tomorrow - to version 4. It will likely still not please everyone. Regardless, I'd encourage you to give it a try - it really is an excellent application and in many ways, it is much better than iTunes. Paul has had some great suggestions about what MS might do with Zune software in coming months/years and I suspect that many of them will find their way into the app and its derivatives.

Geez, you guys don't get it on TWO different threads! Personally i have no problem with Paul hating iTunes...I don't care if he says it's the biggest piece of turd on Earth! His opinion would go a lot further without the INSULTS of HUMAN BEINGS that use the software. You guys REALLY don't get it?! REALLY?!

zune.net is now down as scheduled. Should be up tomorrow. The Canadian Zune site is also down, but it runs off the zune.net domain. Hopefully there's some news about the Zune Video service on there tomorrow.

"His opinion would go a lot further without the INSULTS of HUMAN BEINGS that use the software." "I don't care about the resulting opinion. It's about how he treats his readers." Amazing how some of these people all of a sudden became incredibly altruistic.... Thanks for looking out for us poor helpless souls from the wrath of Paul Thurott, but I'm pretty sure we're all going to manage just find and recover from the big bad words. If we can't, we'll just leave the site, never to return...something that some people here find incapable of doing. HA.

"His opinion would go a lot further without the INSULTS of HUMAN BEINGS that use the software." You talking about RJ? Steve Jobs? The Mac commercials? All can be used interchangeably with that statement.
panache1023
on Sep 14, 2009
RJ's comments are laughable to the point of being ignored. Steve Jobs insults blog readers on an open forum? The Mac commercials insulted people?! I have seen them all and I never thought of them as being insulting.....maybe a bit off base...maybe silly...some just plain stupid.....but insulting to the people watching them?! no way. That would be like saying those awesome Bing commercials were insulting, or that commercial with that little girl using Win7 insulting. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it insulting. Flat out calling people brainwashed lemmings...that's an insult. Then saying, "Not all, just the FANATICS", but then going on to include EVERYONE in that group doesn't exactly make it better.
SandmanX82

@panache I think what people are trying to get at is...WHO CARES??? If him saying that is the worst you can find on the internet, then search a little harder...then maybe you can focus your sudden crusade for righteousness elsewhere. My goodness...I use itunes, but I'm also not an 8 year old girl that would get offended by something that Paul says on a WINDOWS fansite about APPLE users. Man, people here are absolutely unbelievable sometimes.

"I guess if you are on a Windows FANsite, then you must be a brainwashed / braindead MS lemming?" I guess I am. Oh well. (See how that works? Basically ignoring something that someone says on the internet that doesn't know me whatsoever.) "if I ever see you posting some sort of defense of something when you read something you disagree with, I'm calling you out." Go for it. I, however, don't go to a website where I very obviously bitch and moan every single day about every single post and continue to go back for the sole purpose of doing so.

The Mac commercials insult everyone's intelligence, no matter whether you use a Mac or a PC. If you actually think they are truthful or funny, you are brain dead or just an idiot. I find them so distasteful that I will never purchase any Apple product just as I have not spent any money on Sony products since the root kit debacle.
panache1023

Paul, when are you going to just outright ban Ocean for throwing these articles off topic?
lketchum
on Sep 14, 2009
One thing that does puzzle me about public forums is that it does seem that people who "use" Microsoft software - including those like my own company, that build solutions based on its clients, servers and tools, tend to visit and support sites like this one - to learn and perhaps share solutions and what their experience reveals. For example, while I have been to Mac/Apple product centric sites, it has been as a result of a search for a solution to a challenge in using an Apple product as experienced by a customer, or friend. I have never commented on such a site - let alone in a way that would possibly be considered confrontational or insulting. What puzzles me is the number of people who appear to be strong Apple/Mac supporters that take, or even have the time to spend so much energy on Windows/MS centric sites in what appear be efforts to defend their preferences in con/pro-sumer technologies. I've seen a lot of this sort of thing from what appear to be *nix/Linuces supporters commenting on MS community sites we host and support for our larger community of users and pros. It just seems a little odd to me and it continues to puzzle me. I mean, clearly, Apple's software and products are used by more Windows users than Maxc/OS X users and the articles are relevant to Windows users. However, it seems strange for Mac supporters that claim to never use Microsoft software to have such a keen interest in what a bunch of MS/Windows centric pros and users have to say about anything - including the technologies we use. It's a little creepy, even... like being followed about by people who simply don't like you for reasons that make no good sense. So Paul has an opinion. Ok. We all do. So what?

They MAKE the time to do so. Plus, it's no fun arguing into an echo chamber. Here there are technology enthusiasts of every stripe. The discussions are so much better for it.

"I have not spent any money on Sony products since the root kit debacle." Oh, come on. Sony PS3: $299. "It only does EVERYTHING!" (TM). You know you want one. ;) The new Xbox 360's that they sell in the Elite Halo 3 + wireless bundles for $329 are quiet and cool too, and I could certainly see using it as a Media Center Extender NOW, but I don't like the NXE UI. I prefer Sony's simpler navigation. I find the Xbox navigation confusing because there is too much overlap between sections. It's not easy to get lost in the PS3 navigation, but that's not true of the Xbox NXE. Someone I know bought an Xbox to play sports games on because some of the series from EA will not be shipping on PC (he's a hardcore PC gamer), and his brother-in-law has one and he wants to play against him. Will have to see if it scratches discs though. The PS3 has Home though (Home Theatre is awesome!), and the Slim is a really nice piece of kit. For less than $100, you could ~triple the hard drive size and buy a USB enclosure to put the old drive in, and it doesn't void the warranty either. Good stuff. Both are good for creating media storage solutions. They're not really servers, because they won't stream to other devices - yet (except the PSP in the case of the PS3) - but does anybody know of a way to do this without hacking their box? In any case, both are decent options, at least now with the Xbox 360 noise issues fixed (will see if my buddy's will RRoD) and the PS3 price drop. Consumers = WIN! I want to Microsoft make a handheld gaming system that connects to the Xbox at least as seamlessly as the PSP to the PS3 (it's not entirely seamless to setup, but it works well once it's done). The Zune HD doesn't do that, and I think they missed that boat. The Tegra would've been an awesome option to link to the 360. The PS3 Slim and PSPgo look awesome.

Not as funny as you think. I was a longtime Shuffle and then iPod user. Now I'm a future iPhone user...soon as they move away from AT&T exclusivity. If that doesn't happen, then it will be a Touch. That said, I love my iTunes smart playlists and the way I have I collection starred and tagged. I don't have any problems with it and I might keep using it regardless of my future device choices.

" I was a longtime Shuffle and then iPod user." And why not anymore?? We know, we know - the iPod shuffle is a complete joke now. Ok, everybody quit laughing.... :) "I'm a future iPhone user...soon as they move away from AT&T exclusivity." LOL! Canada's networks are going to be moving to GSM (HSPA) for the 2010 Olympics (Telus is rolling out HSPA before the end of this month). Unless US networks do the same it'll be AT&T all the way, and I don't see a CDMA (EVDO [Rev. A]) iPhone on the books anytime soon. CDMA is dead. Where have you been? "If that doesn't happen, then it will be a Touch." Will that be the "EXTREME GAMING EDITION" that does 150 unilinear-filtered polygons per second, or the yet-to-be-released-but-will-be-uber-expensive-because-we're-Apple-dammit model with the sub-par VGA pinhole camera? LOL!

Keep dreaming on that iPhone being on more than just AT&T in the US anytime soon. If you do see it, it's going to be T-Mobile, since no where in the world have they created a CDMA iPhone. "Steve Jobs insults blog readers on an open forum?" Not necessarily blog readers, I was speaking more generally. And I really didn't mean insulting, since I'm not really insulted by it. However, SJ has said that Windows users have no taste. The Mac commercials talk down to you. The iPhone commercials work very well, though, since they are touting the benefits, mainly of the app store, and not trying to bash the competition.
