SuperSite Blog Daily Update: November 19, 2010

Good afternoon.

Adobe has announced Adobe Reader X, it's latest free PDF reader, and released Acrobat X, its line of PDF editors.

Adobe Reader X includes commenting with Sticky Notes and Highlighter tools so that anyone can add comments directly on a PDF document for free. PDF access has been expanded to mobile devices with free Adobe Reader X for Android, Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry Tablet OS, coming soon. Safer viewing of PDF files is available with new Protected Mode security capabilities in Reader X. A new Share pane in Reader X provides a connection to the online Adobe CreatePDF service, making it easy to create a document that others will be able to view consistently.

Free Adobe Reader X is expected to be available by the end of the month.

The next iPad will be much lighter because Apple is abandoning the current aluminum-based design. Odd, so many people tell me the iPad isn't heavy. Pick up a Kindle sometime, please. There's a huge difference.

I don't know why their press release says Acrobat Reader X will be available at the end of the month, it is available right now (http://get.adobe.com/reader/). I installed it this morning.

"Odd, so many people tell me the iPad isn't heavy. Pick up a Kindle sometime, please. There's a huge difference." One thing being lighter than another doesn't make former heavy. I have used both and neither the iPad or Kindle are heavy.

I have never really picked up a Kindle before but I do find that the iPad is a tad heavy, especially when holding it with just one hand. A lighter version would definately make it more appealing to me.

I would guess that the larger weight of the iPad compared to the Kindle is mostly due to the need for bigger batteries for the backlit LCD display. The e-ink screen doesn't require much power.
