Windows 7 Build 7057

Now, Windows 7 build 7057 has leaked (x86 only). This build is newer (March 5) than any I'd previously seen or used, so I will try to grab it today. JCXP has few details but does offer up the new wallpaper and user picture downloads.

Build 7057 includes quite a few noticeable changes. First and foremost is the new pre/post-desktop screen as shown above. Also in this build are once again some new wallpapers, and some new user account pictures to boot. However, only the default wallpapers have been replaced this time around, the global walls remain the same. As always, these bits are available to download at the links below for you to enjoy!

A few other changes should be mentioned as well. We noted that in build 7048 that the UAC security flaw had yet to be fixed. Well we are happy to announce that this has been fixed in 7057 and users are now prompted with a UAC warning when attempting to change the UAC prompt level. Other small changes include the ability to now resize pictures based on pixels rather than percentages in Paint, as well as being able to maintain the image aspect ratio when doing so. Media Center has also been tricked out with a new anthem-like intro tune and interface sound effects. And good news for you Canadian TV watchers; TV functions no longer cause Media Center to crash when setting your region to Canada.

More info as it comes in.

Thanks to Sebastian V. for the link.

so is there a place where all the wallpapers and other pics from all the builds so far have been archived in one zip file or at least in one location. I'm to lazy to dig through all the builds I have and pull them out.... yea clicking on a link is so much easier!

Paul! If you do get it DO NOT FORGET to thank the BitTorrent community. You are getting your daily bread from them now, not from Microsoft. Big newspapers also credit annoying and sneaky paparazzi for photos, so you should give full credit to those who give you fresh materials for web and print publishing.

The new startup, logon and shutdown screens are surprisingly artistic. http://twitpic.com/20zqe/full. I hope they continue to add more of these little touches to Windows before the RTM. It's good to see Windows getting a little style. I've been running this build in VM since last night and the only other real change I've seen is the inclusion of the RAS Connection Manager Admin Pack in the Windows Features turn on/off dialog. While it looks like this build is very close to the RC, I highly doubt that it is the RC itself. There is a very obvious bug that occurs on login - a desktop.ini file has been placed in the start up folder and notepad displays it as soon as you login. I've also noticed a few window painting glitches. Finally, the expiration date has been pushed out to 3/1/2010 and it now says that it is an "Evaluation copy" instead of "For testing purposes only." So this build is definitely in the RC branch.

"And good news for you Canadian TV watchers; TV functions no longer cause Media Center to crash when setting your region to Canada." ....works in 7000. That's why these things don't go public. BTW: There are numerous wallpapers and themes that are specific to your initial region settings when you install. If you install with English-US options, you get a certain set of wallpapers. Set it to English-Canada, and you get a few bonus ones from Canadian photographers.

Wow. Very nice. For those of you who have not seen it yet, here are some more shots from two sites. http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/03/12/windows-7-build-7057-shows-up-i... http://www.win7c.com/ Enjoy. Very nice. I don't think its quite forked off for RC(and I could be wrong), but I think its pretty close. Glad the UAC fix is in, its snappier according to some testers, and the instability from 7048 have been fixed.

Hey Paul.. how come you never make mention of SharePoint in all your Microsoft coverage?

sayguh: "Hey Paul.. how come you never make mention of SharePoint in all your Microsoft coverage?" Because Sharepoint is boring... incredibly, excruciatingly boring. subzerohitman721: "Glad the UAC fix is in, its snappier according to some testers, and the instability from 7048 have been fixed." I've been running 7048 on my main machine for over a week and now and have yet to see the infamous instability that others have talked about. Maybe I'm just lucky. As for 7057, I think it is in the RC fork but hasn't quite reached the RC state yet.

@ken, I don't doubt that 7057 is probably in the RC fork. I'm just waiting for something more official. The 7048 instability appeared on some machines while other's ran smooth. So I bet you are lucky. Also, enjoyed and agreed with your comments on her over the days and weeks. Very refreshing.

Completely off-topic question: does anyone know where the background image (red-purplr-blue energy wave) that Paul used for the "Windows Experience Index" article (January 29, 2009) can be found?

I am so tired of Windows XP!!! I want 7!!! :-) Everyday new screenshots of 7 come out, the more I want it to be released (polished and shinny, that is).

Wasn't even shared to their external partners. It's still in internal distribution. This means that an MS Employee leaked this.(Or one of their soon to be laid off ones).

Windows 7 build 7057 is unstable: I had 2 Windows Explorer crashes in just 5 hours on the first day after the install. no other application was running at the time. there is good reason why these builds are not officially released. Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7057.0, time stamp: 0x49b0da06 Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7057.0, time stamp: 0x49b0eed7 Exception code: 0xc0000005

Some of the goodies from Windows 7 build 7057: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1. The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR2. The previous system shutdown at 1:19:21 PM on ‎3/‎13/‎2009 was unexpected. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000024 (0x001904fb, 0x93e6fafc, 0x93e6f6e0, 0x8789ee5c). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 031309-29612-01. ... I am going back to the beta build 7000
