Windows 7 RC now available on MSDN, TechNet

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your downloads: Windows 7 RC is now available on MSDN and TechNet.

That means the tech beta should get it in about a week, I guess. You gotta love how Microsoft treats those guys.

No Joy here. Another case of MS not being able to handle the volumn.

Kaboom! MSDN download site is in ruins.

Curiously, Microsoft's download servers and bandwidth capacity are fine. It's their web application servers that are failing on Technet now just as they were during the beta for anyone trying to get a product key.

I checked this morning already Mr. Thurrott (you think I wouldn't?) and I'm downloading it right now, both x86 and x64. Post a more interesting blog post next time please or I will tell your boss you are posting "the obvious" as filler.

It would be nice to be able to download it. Instead I get: Sorry, we were unable to service your request. For the latest headlines and to see what's new, visit the MSDN home page. Check out the various MSDN Developer Centers where you can find the latest product information, technical resources, and community offerings. Visit the MSDN Library for the latest technical articles, reference documentation, downloads, and more.

I was just able to get into the Technet side of things, they seem to have the servers back up and running good. Not sure about MSDN but I'd go check now, notice I post this after I started the download. Just in case you all crash it again. :)

Now it's taking almost 30 sec just to get MSDN to load.

Any news on whether the technet version is identical to the main torrent that's been circulating (x86) or whether there are some slight differences? http://www.mininova.org/tor/2521167

Looks like they crashed again, think you guys will just have to keep trying through out the day. That's what I did, finally got it started around 9:30 this morning, central time. Seems down again though.

It's Noon now, EST - MSDN is still down. The good news is that Winsupersite is still up! Woot! I'll never understand how something like this happens - are there really that many subscribers out there, that they can't load-balance for something like this? Maybe I'm underestimating the crush, but it's not open to the public at this point, so what's the problem? .....

Well, a week ago I've got me a x64 bit ISO from torrent-web, so I went to check hashes. Official x64bit ISO on MSDN says this: Windows 7 Ultimate RC (x64) - DVD (English) File Name: en_windows_7_ultimate_rc_x64_dvd_347803.iso Date Posted (UTC): 4/30/2009 6:00:41 AM SHA1: FC867FE1AB2E0A9796F9E4D155B44EA6998F4874 ISO/CRC: 58FB2BE0 My ISO from torrents: 7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GRC1CULXFRER_EN_DVD.iso CRC32: 58FB2BE0 MD5: 98341AF35655137966E382C4FEAA282D SHA1: FC867FE1AB2E0A9796F9E4D155B44EA6998F4874 So it looks to be the SAME file as one from MSDN. So why wait? Get it from torrents!

@LuxZg Did you run the hash on the ISO, or just trust the torrent meta data? I tried the torrent method but wasted alot of time and bandwidth downloading the ISO and hashing it olnly to find it didn't match any of the claimed "good" hashes. So I decided to just wait. I've got the 32 bit now and 64 bit is half way done.
LuxZg
on Apr 30, 2009
Hash check was done on downloaded file, as I had it on my disk for the last week or so. I can probably find which torrent it was, and post a link here, but somehow I think Paul wouldn't approve that ;) But fine, if you've got download almost finished than no need to torrent.. official is official, even if hash is the same. I'd download official as well, but couldn't wait, as I needed a new OS for my new hardware that came in last week :)

Good to hear this is the same as the version out last week. I wonder why that version doesn't show an expiration date like in this screenshot? http://www.winsupersite.com/images/win7/win7_rc_03.jpg

Just had a thought ... I removed the evaluation watermark from the desktop, maybe that removed the date from the about window? May try a clean install in a VM.

It's not just MSDN and TechNet. Connect has it too, if you're subscribed to the beta. Downloading it right now...

"Connect has it too, if you're subscribed to the beta." I went there earlier today and it only had the beta with a message about WDK 1.4 coming out soon.

@wj: What is the name of the Connection for Windows 7 RC? I'm subscribed to the "Windows Ecosystem" one which is where the beta was posted, but there's no RC downloads on there.

Looks like Windows is unable to handle such high demand. They should use Linux.

Excuse me for a newbish question.. but how do I open that "about windows" dialog? Anyway, if it lasts till Jan 2010, all fine. I should have new computer by than :D
LuxZg
on May 1, 2009
Nevermind.. that was a REALLY newb question :P Mine says that it expires on March 2nd 2010, and it's a "torrent" version. So I guess you've removed it after all..
