Is there a web email service less well respected that Hotmail? How about AOL? Or … Yahoo Mail?
Yahoo! announced today that it has redesigned its once-dominant web email service to be faster, more intuitive, and easier to navigate. And it is accompanying this release with new or improved mobile mail experiences on iPhone, iPad, Android, and even.
“Email is the ultimate daily habit,” Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer writes in a post to the terribly named Yodel Anecdotal blog. “It’s often the first thing we check in the morning and the last thing before going to bed. Why? Because it’s one of the simplest and most basic forms of communication. And since it’s such an important part of our daily lives, we’re making a few improvements to Yahoo! Mail.”
Curious about this update, I logged into Yahoo! Mail for the first time in about 17 months and was greeted with the following full-page advertisement. This is what I was talking about when I said that ads in Windows 8 apps were a “slippery slope.”
On the good news front, I have no spam. And I can check my credit score.
To be fair, this is not the new Yahoo! Mail experience, it’s the old one. Yahoo! says that the new experience will be rolling out over the next few days. And if the screenshots are any indication, it, and the new mobile apps, look pretty nice.
