I take offense to the statement you made at 51.03 in the broadcast. I am a knitter and I am interested in technology.
Over the years my exposure to the new technology has come from the circle of KNITTERS that I hang with. Those of us in the fiber community are very tech savvy and are not ashamed to use it to further our enjoyment of our crafting.
Please, please, please do not make the mistake of thinking that I am a 'grandma' knitter (even thought I am a grandmother). I might not run right out and purchase the first generation of the newest gizmo but I do buy the technology that works for me at the price I can afford.
To be that dismissive about those of us that purchase and use things like the Kindle Fire or a Nook because you think we are not 'technology enthusiast' dismisses the fact that a lot of us can not afford anything else OR it meets our needs &/or wants at this time.
I do have a Kindle Fire and a smartphone because they work with my pocketbook and lifestyle. I have many friends that have and use IPads and they are just as happy as I am.

Now why would a WP8 not be a good choice for your wife?

Stop blaming hardware manufacturers for Microsoft's incompetencies.

Windows Phone 8 SUCKS because Microsoft made it so, together with Microsoft's strict hardware specifications.

Windows 8 SUCKS because it should never have left the prototype stage. I've used laptops with some excellent hardware this year, only to be ruined with Windows 8. Hint:most people buying a laptop DON'T want touch, nor do they want an annoying and complex bi-polar interface with random irrelevant things appearing when you don't want them e.g. my mother: she complained about the excellent touchpad on a Lenovo laptop because she said that "things kept appearing that she didn't click on" (hint: it wasn't the touchpad, it was Windows 8).
