It's been a couple of weeks since the last post like this, sorry, but the book is coming along nicely: It surpassed the 200 page mark over the weekend as we've completed the first drafts of two more chapters.
Here are the updates we made in the past few weeks, with the newest posts first.
Here is a post-first draft update to the Files chapter. This one adds some sections that were missing from the first draft—a general discussion about SkyDrive and information about SkyDrive smart files—plus some other content.
I knew I was missing something in the Files chapter: A discussion of SkyDrive "smart files," which are the special shortcut files that let you see thumbnails and other file information even though the actual files aren't (yet in some cases) synced to the PC.
Here is a rough first draft of the Files chapter. I've made some major structural changes—most obviously by (temporarily) removing most of the File Explorer content. And I'm curious if certain things need to be expanded, now or in the future.
Here is a second pass at the FILES chapter, which focuses on the SkyDrive app and (probably) the File Explorer desktop utility.
Here's a very early version of the FILES chapter, which will focus on the SkyDrive app and (probably) the File Explorer desktop utility. I originally figured there'd be a SkyDrive chapter, but of course SkyDrive is multi-faceted in Windows 8.1 and some reorganization was required.
With a quick update, the first draft version of the Personalize chapter is "complete." I put that in quotes, because personalization is a big topic and I think we're only scratching theso far. So we'll be adding to this over time, of course.
