"Plus, anyone can download Pro camera and make it the default camera app if they wish."

Just a quick FYI - you can only download Nokia Pro Camera if you have a Lumia. I have a 8x and it's...

To be fair, I don't remember either console reveal saying they would do very much that's 'revolutionary'. Xbox promised TV, voice commands and gaming, PlayStation offered more gaming and vita...

My guess is that they were thinking anyone that was so concerned with battery life to buy this thing @ $200 (which is insane) wouldn't want the backlight (because...POWER!!).

Friday, March 7, 2014 - 3:59pm

Simple, the money they would be saving on screen hardware they're using to pay MS for licensing.

Wednesday, March 5, 2014 - 2:32pm

Paul, have you noticed any settings to allow automatic sign in without using Kinect? I've dis-kinected and moved my XBO to my PC monitor and now I must sign in before doing anything.

Tuesday, March 4, 2014 - 3:24pm

I think this is almost like the 52x vs 1020. MS trying to be high-end/premium and Sony going for the low end. And just like the 52x, the PS4 is selling gangbusters.

If you listened to any...

I would really like to know why everyone loves android so much. What killer app am I missing that makes android so great? I have a galaxy and it's nice but most of the stuff on the store is...

Wow Paul, you really kicked the hornets nest with this one. Hopefully the folks in Redmond will sit up and take notice. Perhaps your next article can offer some suggestions ala your "Why can't...

I have to admit, I think this release screams that the team has lost focus. Making bridges to the either side of the OS is fine but this is...bad to say the least.

Wednesday, January 22, 2014 - 8:49am

I wouldn't see this as a "bad" thing. They are selling a traditional PC with a traditional OS. HP still has to pay MS for those licenses so MS gets paid and HP gets a (admittedly tiny) market...

With all that's happening with MS recently I see why they are taking their time with a new CEO. Whoever they pick is going to have their work cutout for them and I do not envy them in the least...

Friday, January 3, 2014 - 12:36pm

I have to guess the reason why a lot of the high end phones are showing up is because basically you can only get them from select carriers... at least in the US. Plus the fact that the 520/521 is...

Changes nothing. MS will keep pointing to the cloud. My guess is this service is meant to work like Netflix...except you CAN download the movies on a device.

Xamarin says hi -
"Create Native iOS, Android,
Mac and Windows apps in C#."

Tuesday, November 12, 2013 - 11:07am

I don't think this is the final least not for me. I can still use my 10 credits a month to get music. Once that's gone then Zune is dead.

Thursday, October 31, 2013 - 12:03pm

Hmm.. this or the new kindle? Going to be an interesting holiday.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 - 1:45pm

Sold. Was looking for a surface device for the wife (or me) since I didn't want to buy another win8 tablet. (I already own a w700).

Thursday, October 24, 2013 - 12:49pm

I think you forgot to add the '2' on
"Microsoft this week dropped the price of the original Surface Pro by another $100. With prices now starting at $699—you know, while supplies last—you...

Thursday, October 24, 2013 - 7:58am

Paul, do you remember back to the late 90s early 2000s and all those "Windows shell replacement" programs like litestep and hoverdesk? Those programs let you have MULTIPLE desktop environments an...

For me it's Xbox music stuff. No, not zune integration, but the ability to update playlists from the device, or at least change the current playlist for starters. Xbox video is another but I don...

Ok, who are you and what have you done with the REAL Paul?!? Two recent articles and both of them reasonably positive? Must be a sign of the apocolypse! ;)

While I really like WP8 it must...

Ok so if you're Microsoft what's the answer? I think (hope) they're keenly aware of their position and at this point I think they're pretty much throwing almost everything at the wall to see what...

I read Ozzie's stuff when I found out he was leaving and was amazed at what I read. The minute Balmer decided MS didn't need a CSA I knew there would be problems. Balmer's a salesperson who...

Maybe they'll 180 again and we'll get it early?

Monday, September 30, 2013 - 8:30am

In the ad they show three apps snapped. Has there been any documentation as to what resolution this is possible with? Is this possible with the preview or only with the 8.1 retail?

Monday, September 30, 2013 - 7:29am

I hope they aren't showing these on tv yet...especially since the general audience can't get it for at least another 2 weeks.

Friday, September 27, 2013 - 8:10am

Honestly, the api is pretty limiting. Coming from WP7 it's kind of ridiculous how bad it is.

Thursday, September 26, 2013 - 11:12am

For me, visual studio. I'm a developer. But I have to ask about the speed verdict. My wife is a teacher. She has an aging Kindle Fire (which takes special setup to charge) and Win Vista laptop...

I think it would be a great idea to give "Touch first" Office away on Win8 devices...especially with Apple giving iWork away on IOS devices. It would generate at least some interest in "Metro"...

I have a tmob HD7 that I'm using as a media device right now. It has a deactived sim in it and it hasn't nagged me since I finished setup.
