I totally agree about the music syncing abilities between Windows & Windows Phone is abysmal. Doesn't Microsoft understand how important music is to people? That we spend many hours upon hours...

Saturday, January 18, 2014 - 12:30pm

I'm not sure anyone is even aware than an Xbox Music service exists. Secondly, what Xbox Music desperately needs is a DESKTOP app... like now. I mean, yes, Metro apps will be able to run on the...

Saturday, January 11, 2014 - 12:19pm

While glance screen is cool, I'd much prefer an option to lock/unlock specific apps. Meaning, some apps would be available without unlocking the screen, while others would require your unlock...

I work at a large financial firm in NYC (a Fortune 500 bank) and overheard a conversation between two executives on the elevator today. Apparently, this bank will be scrapping its BlackBerrys and...

Saturday, November 30, 2013 - 10:14am

I agree that it's frustrating and holding the platform back... but I suspect it won't change until Microsoft has some more leverage with the carriers... and that probably won't happen until...

Wednesday, November 27, 2013 - 8:00pm

I think the target audience for the 1520 is people who don't want to buy both a tablet & a smartphone. I think that's why larger phones perform better in developing countries.

Even so,...

If Microsoft weren't planning a Surface with LTE in 2014, then I'd probably choose the Lumia. It's a very tempting device.

Both devices are strikingly attractive. The Lumia is bright and...

Are Bay Trail tablets even considered "tablets" by IDC & Gartner? I don't believe they are... so a large portion of Windows touchscreen devices won't be counted anyway.

Maybe someone...

Friday, October 25, 2013 - 6:57am

I agree. "Surface" is a great brand name for a touch OS.

Thursday, October 24, 2013 - 7:02am

I think the solution to the "desktop extinction" is a Metro task bar (which I've been saying for about a year now).

In other words, Windows opens to one start screen--the Metro one--but...

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 7:10am

If Nokia Music is bundled, does that mean the subscription is free too? Because, otherwise, it's just an app that doesn't do much. But if it includes a free subscription... then that could prove...

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 7:08am

I'm trying to decide between the Nokia & the (yet-to-be-released) LTE Surface 2. I'm assuming that an LTE Surface will have GPS...

Either way, I guess I'll have to wait a few months...

Monday, October 14, 2013 - 9:58pm

I agree that they should retire the "Windows" brand and come up with something fresh. Personally, I like the name "Surface" for the name of the OS. I mean, the OS doesn't really even use windows...

Saturday, October 12, 2013 - 1:51pm

Licensing Windows RT & Phone OSes for free would be pretty audacious (for Microsoft). Suddenly, OEMs could make a buck off of Windows tablets... and it would actually cost them LESS than...

Friday, October 11, 2013 - 10:37pm

I wonder if Whitman considered them "competitors" when HP was selling Linux netbooks? And, yes, I know she wasn't at the helm then, but she's pretending like HP has been totally faithful to...

Friday, October 11, 2013 - 10:33pm

EXCELLENT POINT! And one that Microsoft has finally woken up to... which is why we now have the Surfaces & Nokia deal. OEMs totally dropped the ball with Windows 8. It was a great...

Friday, October 11, 2013 - 10:31pm

It's totally hypocritical on the OEMs' part though--they've been toying with other OSes for over a decade. And... hey... if that was in their best interests, then that's the prerogative. But...

Friday, October 11, 2013 - 7:57pm

HP is looking for a scapegoat... and it's pretty pathetic. HP is getting its butt kicked by other OEMs, not Microsoft. The reality is that last year, Lenovo & Asus had the best Windows 8...

Friday, October 4, 2013 - 7:19pm

I think the new minis coming out by the OEMs explain why Microsoft is not releasing the Surface Mini until the spring--they're giving their OEM partners a chance to make some money off of Windows...

Thursday, October 3, 2013 - 7:51pm

What I don't like is that I can't tell one account from another because they're all named "Outlook" instead of the name on the account.

Sunday, September 29, 2013 - 4:53pm

It's good but there's still going to be (totally avoidable) blowback about the missing Start Menu. I understand Microsoft's vision & that they're trying to nudge users along by kicking away...

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 7:12am

I think the Surface Pro should be a new category. It's confusing to call it a "tablet" while also calling the regular Surface also a tablet. The Surface Pro is not really a tablet. It's an...

Monday, September 23, 2013 - 9:04pm

Based on the pricing... and the assumption that Microsoft is a smart company... all I can figure is that Microsoft is okay with low sales for the Surface, possibly because they don't want to...

Monday, September 23, 2013 - 6:56pm

I think it's absolutely brilliant that the entire touch cover/keyboard acts like a touchpad.

Sunday, September 22, 2013 - 2:01pm

There are a lot of great features in Windows 8/Metro... the problem is that most owners of Windows 8 aren't using them (yet) because they're using it on non-touch desktops & laptops.

...

Sunday, September 22, 2013 - 11:30am

I disagree about selling off Xbox... because the TV is the next battleground and Microsoft NEEDS to be there.

As for Windows RT running all mobile devices... I agree that that's where they'...

Sunday, September 22, 2013 - 11:25am

Agree. I think that, beginning with Windows 9, Windows RT should be known as "Windows" (with no desktop) and anything with a desktop should be called "Windows Pro."

This might clear things...

Sunday, September 22, 2013 - 11:12am

The Surface Pro is an ultrabook & runs Windows 8, so I understand charging a premium for that.

For the Surface (formerly known as RT), the price needs to be lower. Didn't they learn...

Saturday, September 21, 2013 - 2:12pm

Microsoft says it's "serious" about mobile... but then keeps following the same strategy--charging OEMs for WP OS & Windows RT when they should be licensing it for free (or close to it). The...

Friday, September 20, 2013 - 7:10pm

It's a great vision... but can Microsoft sell it? I wasn't encouraged by the (rumored) prices of the new Surfaces. Still way too high, particularly for the RT. I mean, the OEMs are about to...
