Honestly, the entire Windows 8 sync process has become second rate with the removal of the Zune software. Hopefully getting things back up to par is a high priority for the windows phone team.

An Xbox Live Gold subscription is pretty much a no brainer, as you get blocked out of a lot more than just multiplayer without it.
