True, but an overwhelming majority of computers/tablets are landscape (so there is more space on the side) and the UI needs to be consistent with both desktop and tablet use.

I can't get over them mixing menu UI elements between Metro (changing user or logging out) and traditional desktop (pinning/unpinning tiles, resizing them, etc...). It looks pretty damn sloppy....
