This is what Windows 8 should have been from the very beginning. I'll wait to see the details, but I can see myself giving up my Stardock software for these 'new' features.

More than half the "Windows user base" will switch to Linux? I doubt that. I think a large number of former Windows users will switch to Linux, but not because of Windows 8 per se - it will happen...
Adding a product from one arrogant monopoly to the product of another arrogant monopoly does not strike me as benefiting consumers.
Windows 8 would have been much more popular and successful if the Modern/Metro desktop was made an optional 'feature'.
