Morgan, I feel your pain, at least I did before upgrading to Windows 8 CP.
After upgrading my PC and loading Zune my phone was updated to 8107 on it's first connect. No more disappearing...

It's too bad that MS is pushing MP3 users to the Windows Phone platform.
My neice and nephew are too young/not allowed to have phones, but use their Zunes and families ZunePass for they music....
It's been a while since the last What I Use, but there haven't been many major changes since late last year: Surface Pro 3 has become my go-to travel companion, I've added a third cellphone line for testing Windows Phone, Android and iPhone side-by-side, and have rotated through some new tablets and other devices.
