One of the popular features of Windows 10 for gamers who also own an Xbox One is the ability to stream console gaming via their home network to a Windows 10 based device.
The experience is surprisingly good and I have been able to stream games like Star Wars Battlegroud, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Golf and Madden NFL 16 without issue.
Even over WiFi the streaming is solid and the ability to stream my gaming to the back office is handy when the living room television is in use.
In order to control your Xbox One over the stream you have to use a wired Xbox One controller or now, thanks to the availability of the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, you can use those same controllers wirelessly.
The Xbox One normally ships with one wireless controller in the box so if you want to use that with your streamed gaming on Windows 10 it meant grabbing a MicroUSB cable and moving the controller to and from your Xbox one's location. Another option was to go ahead and purchase a second controller to have a spare for gaming on Windows 10.
Well did you know that your original wired Xbox 360 controllers can be used to control your Xbox One as it streams to your Windows 10 PC?
Thanks to a tip last night from one of my followers on Twitter, James Rufer, I tried this out today and it works great. I even plugged in a wired Xbox 360 compatible controller I had around and it works as well.
I am expecting the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 to arrive later today and I will also try one of my wireless Xbox 360 controllers with it to see if it might work - it will all depend on compatibility but it can't hurt to give it a shot. Update: Wireless Xbox 360 controllers do not work with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10.(*) However, the wireless adapter works without issue with your Xbox One controllers and helps you get rid of the cable finally when streaming from your Xbox One.
I will update this post when I am able to test it.(*)
So go dig those old Xbox 360 controllers out of their boxes and drawers so you can put them to use on your Windows 10 devices. This is much less expensive then heading out and purchasing additional controllers.
