Today is the Last Day for the $39.99 Windows Pro Upgrade

Windows 8 Pro is just $39.99 today ... But it jumps to $199.99 tomorrow

Just a quick reminder that Microsoft’s incredible promotional pricing for the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade ends today. If you’ve not done so yet, head on over to windows.com and snag a copy before the price jumps to $199.99.

I’ve already written a lot about this upgrading promotion, and how you can best take advantage of it. But here are the articles that address the two most pertinent issues:

Windows 8 Tip: Upgrade to Windows 8 Now

This one is a bit timelier than most of my previous Windows 8 tips, and it’s likewise very straightforward. If you’re planning to upgrade an existing PC to Windows 8, you need to do so soon in order to save a ton of money. And that’s true whether you wish to buy a retail upgrade or do so electronically.

Windows 8 Tip: Buy the Electronic Upgrade Now, Install It Later

I recommend Microsoft’s web-based installer as the best way to purchase and install Windows 8 Pro. But with the special promotional pricing for this upgrade coming to a close, readers are wondering whether they can buy now (and save) but install later. The answer is a resounding yes.

I think the only option is the Pro Pack, which also goes up in price tomorrow I believe.

I'm pretty sure the Media Center upgrade doesn't work on vanilla Windows 8.

Saw your post today and wondered whether to upgrade (I bought new windows 7 pc in october 2012) using the advice you give to buy now and install later, given that I dont have a pc I particularly wish to upgrade. Surprise surprise have just received an email from MIcrosoft informing me offer now extended to February 28... Wonder if that reflects general uptake or planned offer?

Nothing was extended. The PC upgrade offer (which is $14.99) was always valid through February 28, though you have to have registered by the end of January. This is not the same as the $39.99 software upgrade offer.
