Microsoft Says Windows Phone 7.5 Will Ship in Next Week or Two

Microsoft today revealed that it intends to deliver Windows Phone 7.5, previously codenamed Mango, to customers in the next week or two. This indicates that development of the upgrade, which includes both Microsoft and partner code, is now complete.

"For months, we and dozens of our partner companies have been laying the groundwork for the Windows Phone 7.5 update and making solid progress," Microsoft's Eric Hautala wrote in a blog post. "As a result, we now expect to start rolling it out in the next week or two. At that time, we'll also refresh the Where's My Phone Update? table to reflect the worldwide rollout status."

Hautala also warned users against downloading and installing unofficial or leaked copies of Windows Phone software. Why? Because these unofficial copies aren't the complete Mango package and don't include the crucial device- and hardware maker-specific updates.

He also noted that you can prepare for the coming rolling update--which will hopefully go a lot more smoothly and quickly than this year's previous Windows Phone software updates--by grabbing the latest Zune PC software (for Windows users) or Windows Phone 7 Connector (for Mac).

Ladies and gentlemen, get your handsets ready. Mango is on the way. My review of this major update to Windows Phone will be available next week.

The use of words like "hopefully" and "expect" are never good in my mind, but I'll patiently wait for my mango..

I'm with Alex, My current contract is nearly up, but sod it, once the Nokia or the new HTC phone comes out, its mine! My current phone contractor '3' here in the UK don't seem to be stocking any Windows phones at all. Sad perhaps but they are losing a longstanding customer.

I just went to peek at the "Where's my phone" page, and was interested to notice that Verizon is still only "planning" the release of 7392 (the SSL update). Though I own the Trophy, it just hadn't occured to me after hearing about it months ago that I never got it. ...not a good sign for Mango on Verizon, I'm afraid...

I just went to the "Where's my phone update" page, and was curious to find that Verizon is the only carrier not delivering the 7392 (SSL) update - it's still in "planning". Though I have a Trophy on VZW, it just hadn't occured to me that it hadn't arrived after I heard about it months ago. ...that doesn't seem like very good news for Mango on Verizon, does it?

I have to say I have surrendered. I bought into a windows pda, a zune, windows server, etc. I will not buy into a windows phone 7. I have invested too much money and TIME with windows products, only to have them abandoned me. THIS IS WERE WINDOWS FAILS. ABANDONMENT. They want me back, and then they need to hand over a windows phone. Fool me once...fool me twice...you get it.
