Nokia Updates Lumia 900

updateyourphone

It looks like Nokia can work some magic with wireless operators that even Microsoft can’t muster: The smartphone giant today issued a software update for the Lumia 900 that fixes a handful of common and widely-reported bugs. It’s the second software update Nokia has issued since the Lumia 900 debuted.

According to the Nokia support web site, the new update is simply called NOKIA Update for Windows Phone and will rev the software version to 2175.1003.8112.12085. It includes the following new features:

-          Removes purple hue which affected the screen of some devices in low light conditions

-          Enhanced sensitivity for proximity sensor performance

-          Other minor adjustments and enhancements

You’ll want to connect your phone to the PC to get this download as it’s 88 MB big. (Remember: Updates over 20 MB cannot be delivered to Windows Phone over the air.)

Have you got the Nokia Reading Hub yet? Has the look and feel of the other hubs, and looks like it was done by Adobe. Ive seen EPUB and PDF formats. All the price etc are British (I'm in the UK).Not sure if its released in the US yet. I found it in the Nokia Collection. Plenty of genres, has a booklist for different prices, new releases etc, and a featured list. Books are also ranked in price, bestsellers and release date. The reader itself is similar to the Kindle App. It has a wonderful broad range of titles. Many, many books on WW2 for example.

More reason to go with Nokia for a Windows Phone. I haven't received any update for my Samsung Focus S. Better to go with a company that puts resources behind the Windows Phone platform.

Hi, Paul. So far, so good. I immediately noticed 2 things after installing the update: 1) Music sounds completely clear, even at full volume. 2) I took a few low light photos (too late in the day to test it outside) and there seems to be a dramatic improvement. I'm eager to discover other refinements, etc. I will repost if there's enough to justify it. I already loved my Nokia Lumia 900. Now, Nokia continues to demonstrate the sincere appreciation for every customer (Whether it's a survival instinct or genuine philosophy is almost immaterial). - Shawn

Very happy that Nokia seems to be rolling out updates without AT&T intervention. So glad I am using a device that the manufacturer seems to care even after they made their money from the sale. Wish this carried over to the other manufacturers but I doubt it will. This is very nitpicky but I do have one very small quibble though. I really wish they could break out and list every single fix instead of the all encompassing "Other bug fixes and enhancements included" statement. Even if they are small fixes I would rather know then play the "Wait did this change??" game when using the software after an update. Again though I am very happy with my Nokia Lumia 900 and am very excited to see what is coming up next.

OK, I'm back with an update. One HUGE thing I've discovered is related to the camera and it's good news: Prior to the update, my photos would be color tinted (yellowish) compared to what I viewed on the screen immediately prior to the shot. Now, the colors in the photo are either the same or very, very close. I took many different shots and toggled (or swiped) between the last photo and the live view of the same area. Try it for yourself and you should see a huge improvement. I sure did!!!! :)

It's great that Nokia is not only releasing updates but also getting them out to the devices. Given Apples recent comments at WWDC2012 about the % of devices running iOS5 verses the % of Android devices running ICS do you see update uptake % numbers becoming an important metric in mobile platform wars?
