While most Windows Phone users are Windows users, and thus will need to use the Zune PC software to sync digital media content to and from their devices, Microsoft provides Mac users with an alternate solution, since the Zune software is not available for that platform. It's actually a pretty decent utility, called Windows Phone 7 Connector. And this week it was upgraded to version 2.0, with support for Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango."
Available via the Mac App Store, Windows Phone 7 Connector 2.0 provides the following updates and changes:
- Full sync and import support for Apple Aperture software
- Drag and drop import of files from Browse Device
- Ringtone transfer support (for phones running Windows Phone 7.5 or later)
- Improved video conversion process with user configuration options
- Support for Windows Phone Marketplace (for phones running Windows Phone 7.5 or later)
- Localization support for 13 additional languages
- Improvements to backup and restore operations
- Improved configuration for podcast sync and photo import
- Improved iTunes import support in certain languages
- Improved metadata support for videos
It also provides the following fixes:
- Added additional error codes and help references for device update
- Resolved connectivity issues with certain devices
- Resolved album art display issues for certain devices
As with the original version of this software, Windows Phone 7 Connector 2.0 lets you sync your iTunes-based library of music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts, as well as your iPhoto-based photo collection, to Windows Phone (and Zune HD). It also provides a way to download photos from the phone to your Mac. And it does so with a decently effective iTunes-like UI.
