I just wish they'd release it as a data usage monitor for those of us whose carriers don't support it. I'm not too bothered about the web page compression or wifi handoff features but I'd like to know what's using my data up.
+1 - it's a shame that if you buy the phone off-contract you miss out on this feature.
The overview screen says the data is measured by your phone and may differ from what your carrier measures. So why does this feature need to be supported by your carrier if it's the phone that does the measuring?
Off Topic - MusicMan HD130 as the post pic?
:) I just liked the nobs. It's in the Windows Phone 8 commercial that's airing now.
Hmm. Doesn't help much if you're on a shared-data plan though. Next weekend we're planning on going back to Verizon - daughter wants an iPhone, wife wants an Andriod and I want an HTC 8x. At least I'll know how much data I am using...
Seems similar to the app Nokia provides for Lumia users. But it is typical of WP that you need a third-party app for something so fundamental to the user experience.
Um, what does a guitar amp have to do with Data Sense?
I bought the Nokia 920 from AT&T, and it has a pre-installed AT&T app that shows the data usage and other account info (like what day of the month things reset). There's no tile, and you're dependent on AT&T giving you any notifications you're getting close... but at least the information IS avialable somewhat easily.
I should have mentioned that. AT&T is actually excellent about texting you when you get close to your data limit, and the price for additional data is reasonable. The My AT&T app is excellent.
I heard via email that T-Mobile has a similar app as well.
How does it compare to the Data Usage options on Android 4.0 and above?
Do you get a breakdown on how much data each individual app is using?
Yes, it shows you a breakdown of both Cellular and Wi-Fi data used by each app.
Awesome. Thanks tjmorio!
The Microsoft Surface has a nifty feature that allows you to define a connection as limited and monitor usage. It works really well for my tethering on my Lumia 800. It is obviously just counting all the data going through that pipe. Why can't WP8 do the same thing? You should be able to monitor usage through different WiFi connections as well as through your carrier. Why should it be a carrier dependent feature at all?
Is there any third part app to get the same functionality on lumia 920 unlocked device
Sheesh, it is April. What is taking so long to get this app onto the AT&T network? Both my wife's 920 and my daughter's 900 occasionally go crazy on the cellular network and run over their 200 MB plans in a matter of minutes. First they get a 65% capacity message, then a 90% message about 30 minutes later. This has happened two months in a row so they now just turn off their cellular connection. I'd like to track down the bastard app that is consuming this bandwidth.
