RSAT for Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Tomorrow, I'll be able to write about the Windows Server 8 Beta, which is being released concurrently with the Windows 8 Consumer Preview this week. But you can grab the Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Consumer Preview today: This toolkit lets you manage a Windows Server 8 server remotely from a Windows 8 client PC.

RSAT for Windows 8 Consumer Preview can be downloaded from the Microsoft web site.

Description: Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Consumer Preview enables IT administrators to manage roles and features that are installed on computers that are running Windows Server "8" Beta from a remote computer that is running Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

By the way, this will be the first time that RSAT ships concurrently with a new release of Windows Server. With previous releases, the RSAT tools shipped well after the OS for some reason. But Microsoft expects the vast majority of admins and IT pros who work with Windows Server 8 to do so remotely, and not interactively with the server itself. So a timely release of RSAT is a must.

More on Windows Server 8 Beta tomorrow.

You and Microsoft can say anything you want, I don't care: a lot of people will find having the Desktop swept away to Metro every time they want to do something (or mis-click) very annoying. Microsoft might has well program in a Taskbar option to enable the Start Menu proper so that people who do more than "photos" won't end up beside themselves.
