10 New Apps for Xbox 360, Over 40 More in Early 2013

Xbox 360 goes app crazy

The Xbox 360 is being overrun by apps, following the model established by Windows 8 and Windows Phone. Today, Microsoft announced 10 new apps. And over 40 more are coming in early 2013.

The following ten apps are available today, according to Microsoft:

ARTE (Germany, France)

“An exciting mix of content from the Cultural TV station including documentaries, concerts and movies.”

CinemaNow (Expanding to Canada)

Already available in the US, CinemaNow lets customers access their purchased TV show and movie content.

CNET (United States, Canada)

Apparently, this is some kind of technology blog.

Karaoke (All LIVE regions, excluding Japan and United Arab Emirates)

“Karaoke provides access to more than 8,000 songs from the latest hits to the oldies but goodies, available on Xbox LIVE. Your avatar will go on stage and sing with a full complement of stage props and back band. Use SmartGlass to play/stop/pause, browse the database and lyrics or to add songs to the playlist. Songs don’t require any download and will playback immediately via streaming for a robust karaoke experience.”

Maxim (United States)

The men’s magazine. Yes, seriously.

Napster (Germany, United Kingdom)

Napster is still a thing, letting you “play millions of songs instantly.”

SkyDrive (All LIVE regions)

I wrote about the SkyDrive app for Xbox 360 earlier today.

SPORT1 (Austria, Germany)

This app provides “Video-Sport-News, Livescores, Livestreams of popular sport events and access to Pay-TV Sports channel SPORT1+.”

VEVO (Expanding to Spain, Italy & France)

VEVO is a music video and entertainment platform that provides streaming live concerts, exclusive programming access to over 45,000 music videos. It’s already available in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.

Zattoo (Germany)

“The Zattoo app gives you access to free Live TV across 55 channels and an Electronic Program Guide. HiQ accounts feature quick, ad-free channel switches and higher quality streams (including HD), starting at 3.75 EUR per month. Additional premium TV channels, including Sports, Documentary, Kids, Music channels, and International packages are also available.”

Hurray, Maxim for the kiddos!

Nickelodeon was announced at E3 and was supposedly coming this year, odd that it's not there yet.

I echo the desire for a TWiT app. Tell Leo to get his crack team on it ASAP. Also, any chance Plex or XBMC could make an appearance.

Any bets on how long it will be before we're uninstalling pre-installed crapware from our consoles? Excuse me, "value added" software. :-P

As usual not much in the list for Australia! No streaming viedo at all from what I can see. No Hulu, no Netflix, no video at all! People wonder why torrents are so popular here!
